3A Southern/ Sunrise
Virgin Valley at Sunrise Mtn
The Bulldogs travelled to Sunrise Mountain last week and came away with a 21-14 win over the Miners. The Dawgs defense won this game for them as they held the Miners to 111 total yards.
The Miners started fast by scoring their first touchdown in the first 1:39 of the game.
Jayden Perkins put Virgin Valley on the board later in the quarter after a fourteen play drive from 2 yards out. Forty seconds later Perkins picked up a fumble and ran 6 yards for the Bulldogs second touchdown 14-7 Dawgs.

Claude Moore tied the game for Sunrise Mountain with a 6 yard plunge with 11:34 to play in the third quarter tying the score 14-14.
Jayden Perkins had a 2 yard run for the final touchdown late in the third quarter.
Virgin Valley finished with 232 yards rushing on 42 carries. They were 9-16 passing for 83 yards for a total of 315 yards of offense. Perkins was the leading rusher with 36 carries for 172 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Chaparral at Basic
A total of 109 points were scored in this game as Basic beat the Cowboys in Henderson. By the end of the first quarter Basic had built a 21-14 lead.
The Basic Wolves scored three times in the second quarter all three pass plays. Chaparral scored once in the quarter. Basic led 42-20 at halftime.
In the second half Chaparral outscored Basic by 24-23, two touchdowns in each quarter. The touchdowns alternated starting with Basic and finishing with Chap at the 5 minute mark in the fourth quarter.
When the smoke settled there were 957 yards of total offense and 109 points scored. Basic had 512 total yards while Chaparral finished with 445 total yards.

Boulder City at Lake Mead
The Eagles got their first win of the season by thumping Lake Mead 42-0. Boulder City had 299 yards of total offense while holding their opponent to 71 yards. A total of 279 yards of Boulder City’s yards came from running with six different Eagles scoring.
Boulder City led 7-0 after the first quarter then 21-0 at halftime. The Eagles scored three times in the fourth quarter.

Del Sol at Pahrump Valley
The Del Sol Dragons got a win in Pahrump on Friday, 14-11. The Dragons scored 14 points in the first half then held the Trojans to one touchdown in the second half for the win.
Joey Slade kicked a 42 yard field goal for the Trojans in the first half.
The Trojans turned the ball over 5 times then had eight tries to score the game winning touchdown inside the ten yard line and couldn’t pull it off. The last three attempts were from the 1 yard line. A bad snap prohibited the game tying field goal giving the Dragons the lead. Del Sol had two touchdowns called back due to penalties which totaled 135 yards for the game.

Sunrise standings (league play not yet started): Del Sol 2-0, Moapa Valley 1-1, Virgin Valley 1-1, Chaparral 1-1 and Boulder City 1-1.

3A Southern/ Sunset
Clark at Western
The Warriors hosted Clark on Friday where the Chargers handled the Warriors 38-6. Clark lead 12-0 after the first quarter then each team scored a touchdown in the second quarter. Clark scored three touchdowns in the third.

Cheyenne at Canyon Springs
The Desert Shields lost in the final seconds to Canyon Springs, 28-22. Cheyenne gave up two touchdowns in the final two minutes to get the loss.
Cheyenne split the final two Pioneer touchdowns with a touchdown of their own with 58 second remaining in the game. Two pass interference calls helped the Pioneers down the field to be in position to score the game winner: a 20 yard touchdown pass with 15 second remaining.
Cheyenne had 354 yards total offense while Canyon Springs had 286 yards total.

Rancho at Desert Pines
Last year the Jaguars had to deal with two league forfeit loses costing them a quarter final loss in the state playoffs to Moapa Valley due to an ineligible player. This year they will have to deal with another blow as quarterback Marckell Grayson has been lost for the season in an ACL injury. The injury came last week against Centennial; a 44-41 win.
As a result not only did the team lose their starting quarterback but also their star receiver in Randal Grimes who will now be the quarterback.
But they caught a break last week as they hosted Rancho and came away with an easy 51-0 shutout. Desert Pines scored three touchdowns in the first quarter with Isaiah Morris scoring the first from 3 yards away. Tony Fields then caught a 25 yard pass from Grimes. Capri Uzan scored the next two touchdowns: the first a 17 yard reception from Grimes; and then he intercepted and returned a 40 yard touchdown to start the second quarter.
Rancho had 37 yards of total offense on the night while Desert Pines finished with 235.

Legacy at Mojave
Legacy played their first game last week traveling to Mojave and coming home with the win 22-6. The game was close until the fourth quarter when the Longhorns scored two touchdowns and held Mojave to a single touchdown in the fourth for the win.
Legacy struggled with penalties as they finished with 199 yards total offense. Mojave had 109 yards total offense.

Sunset standings (league play not yet started)Desert Pines 2-0, Pahrump Valley 1-1, Sunrise Mountain 1-1, Mojave 1-1, Western 0-2 and Cheyenne 0-2.

3A Northern
Fallon at Truckee
The upset of the week happened in Truckee last week as the Wolverines beat the Fallon Green wave 28-12. Truckee is now 2-0 in league play as well as Elko and Spring Creek.
Fallon scored first but missed the conversion and lead 6-0. Truckee then scored their first touchdown of the day to take a 7-6 lead. Wulf Retzlaff scored on a 2 yard run with 3:58 to play for a 14-6 halftime lead.
It wasn’t until four seconds into the fourth quarter that Truckee would score again from the three yard line by Carson McCarron, 21-6 Truckee.
Fallon cut the lead to 21-13 with a 43 yards touchdown pass.
Truckee sealed the win when McCarron broke a 44 yard touchdown run with 7:29 to play in the game. Truckee finished with 85 yards passing.

Lowry at Fernley
Fernley won a close game against the Buckaroos 31-26. Elko at Wooster
This game was close as the Indians beat Wooster 20-13.

Dayton at Sparks
Dayton scored 10 points this week which is the most they have scored in a game in the past two seasons. But they still lost to Sparks 20-10.

South Tahoe at Spring Creek
Despite losing their top runningback to an injury last week the Spring Creek Spartans made short work of South Tahoe by beating the Vikings 51-14. Mitch Owsley is done for the season but the Spartans scored 22 points in each of the first two quarters starting the running clock in the third quarter.
Spartan Quarterback Jon Jund threw 21 passes completing 18 of them for 359 yards and six touchdowns in the game. Five of the touchdowns came on screen passes.
Spring Creek had been a running team in the past but has clearly changed the offense into an effective passing team. Dakota Larson caught 8 passes for 155 yards and scoring 4 touchdowns.
South Tahoe was able to score two touchdowns in the second quarter. Viking quarterback Tommy Cefalu threw four interceptions in the game making it difficult to stay close. Spring Creek lead 44-14 at half time.
The Spartans had 468 yards of total offense.

Northern league standings
Elko 2-0, Spring Creek 2-0, Truckee 2-0, Fallon 1-1, South Tahoe 1-1, Fernley 1-1, Sparks 1-1, Dayton 0-2, Wooster 0-2, Lowry 0-2.
