Fishing The Overton Arm (April 5, 2017)

Gary, aka Catfish Gary, of Echo Bay Trailer Park, reported some excellent fishing up in the very northern end of the lake on March 13. His friend from Colorado, was fortunate to be with him, and score on some fantastic catfishing.

The photograph displays both of them holding 13 big catfish, all of which were well over two pounds each. One big Channel Cat weighed 11 pounds.
Gary’s most recent trip on the Overton Arm, two weeks ago, up in 3 feet of water, involved catching two big carp.

Gary said he was using anchovies and hotdogs for bait when fishing for catfish. He was using power bait and a small rubber worm when he caught the Carp.

He said he has a two rod license. He had doubles on the carp. One weighed 23 pounds, and the other carp weighed 16 pounds. It was a battle which lasted 15 minutes, getting those carp in the net.

For the information of anglers, Carp fishing has become a big sport. Fly rods or 12 foot noodle rods are the favorite rigs for sportsmen, fishing for Carp. It has become so popular, that fishing for Carp is now a specialty for guides who provide a day of Carp fishing in Idaho, Montana, Utah and Nevada.

Well, it’s time for me to think about packing up and heading north. One more story about the “Preacher” and his fishing from shore, and then we will be out of here for a summer up north.
I’m tempted to come back this summer and fish at night for stripers.
