Fishing The Overton Arm (May 3, 2017)

By LOREN BROOKS

Loren Brooks

Thanks for the memories, photographs, and tales of angling for the past 6 months.
Matt, the manager of Ace Hardware, says there will be a lot of good fishing this summer. He claims these articles in The Progress will be welcome again this fall, when yours truly returns for another winter of fishing on Lake Mead.

The past two weeks have been rewarding for those dodging the wind and hooking some nice Stripers. The guys and gals fishing the lake claim somewhere between 15 and 30 fish are being caught each day.
Judge Lanny Waite goes early in the mornings and says the large mouth bass are very active. Tom and RuthAnn are staying late, and coming in with some nice stripers in the usual place near marker 19. Bud and Allen claim “crank bait” produces many stripers.

As for the wind, I parked my trailer on the street in “Fun and Sun” this week, so I could connect up with the hitch at the back of the 5th wheel. I blocked the wheels in the back, so the trailer would remain in position for hookup. Well let me tell you how strong the wind was this past Tuesday. My boat and trailer were pushed forward down the street about 5 yards, thanks to some powerful gusts that took place in the park. My bimini caught the wind like a sail boat at sea. No damage to the boat or the bimini, but I was glad that I heeded the wind warnings and was not on the lake that day. I was tempted to go out one more time before heading north for the summer.

Thanks for sharing your stories and I hope to be writing again for the Progress, next October.
