Southern 3A – Sunrise
Sunrise Mtn. @ Virgin Valley
The Miners were looking forward to a win in Mesquite to help them in their quest to win the Sunset. No, it was not a league game, but the Miners needed a win to give them some experience headed into league play which starts next week for the Sunset.
But this game was a battle to the end. Four times the teams were tied and there were five lead changes in the game. Virgin Valley took a final lead when place kicker Lane Ramos booted a 26 yard field goal with just over 3 minutes remaining in the game.
After the next Sunrise Mountain drive, which ended quickly, Virgin Valley fumbled the snap and lost the ball. It was recovered by the Miners. Trying to tie the game, Jason Rodriguez attempted a 36-yard field goal and missed just left, securing a Bulldogs win.

Rancho at Chaparral
The Chaparral Cowboys destroyed the Rancho Rams last Saturday by the score of 63-0. The Rams continue their winless streak.
Chaparral ran for 299 yards which was their total yards as they didn’t throw a single pass all night.
Tre Roberts led the defense with 2 interceptions that he ran back for touchdowns: the first for 35 yards and the second for 39 yards. The defense was also credited with a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
Rancho had 39 yards of total offense all running. They were 0-6 passing with the two interceptions.

Del Sol at Western
Del Sol made short work of the Western Warriors last Saturday night at Western, 44-6.
Del Sol scored the first four touchdowns of the game in the first quarter for a 24-0 lead. Taariq Flowers started the game off when he ran 64 yards for the first touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. Five minutes later Barry Williams caught an Andre Navares pass for a 21-yard touchdown. Flowers scored again, this time from just 2 yards. Williams then caught a Western punt and returned it 85 yards for a touchdown with 1:42 to play in the first quarter.
The last three touchdowns were scored in just under a four-minute period. Flowers scored his third touchdown from 24 yards out to start the first drive of the second quarter for Del Sol. Malik Flowers then caught a 48-yard touchdown pass from Navarez with 4 minutes to play in the third quarter. Del Sol scored the final touchdown when Kayce Cohon caught a Western pass at the goal line and returned it 100 yards for the touchdown.
Del Sol finished with 370 yards of total offense with Taariq Flowers leading the way with 229 yards rushing on 18 carries with 3 total touchdowns.
Western finished with 182 yards of total offense, 115 rushing.

Sunrise Standings: Chaparral is 4-1, Moapa Valley is 3-1, Virgin Valley is 3-2 and Del Sol is 2-2.

Southern 3A – Sunset
Cheyenne, Desert Pines, Pahrump Valley and Mojave all had byes this past week and will start their league season on Thursday night. Cheyenne will start by hosting Western while Pahrump Valley will host Desert Pines. Sunrise Mountain will travel to Mojave.
Sunset Standings: Mojave is 3-1, Pahrump Valley and Sunrise Mountain are 2-2, Cheyenne and Desert Pines are 1-2 while Western is 1-3.

Northern 3A
Dayton at Tahoe Truckee
The Truckee Wolverines shredded the Dayton Dust Devils 57-0 on Saturday.
It didn’t take long as the Wolverines scored in the first three minutes with a touchdown pass from quarterback Marcus Bellon to receiver Cole Eichele. They would score again about four minutes later when Jamie Parisi caught a Bellon pass for a 34-yard touchdown and with the PAT lead 14-0.
The third touchdown of the first quarter came when Eichele found the endzone after a 4 yard run with just under a minute to play in the first quarter.
Truckee didn’t slow down as they scored 24 more points including a bomb from Bellon to Eichele for an 85-yard play. The Wolverines added 14 more points in the second half.
Truckee had 304 yards passing as Bellon was 8-10 for 272 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Wolverines had 153 yards rushing with 3 touchdowns
Truckee is now 3-1 in league play.

Sparks at Spring Creek
The Sparks Railroaders were beaten by the Spring Creek Spartans 35-15 on Friday night. The Spartans finished with 331 yards rushing as they pounded the ball at the Railroaders all night. Spring Creek scored 16 points in the first quarter. They would lead 22-7 at half time.
Spring Creek finished with 127 yards passing and 458 total yards for the game.
Sparks had 24 yards passing and 274 yards rushing.

Elko at Fernley
Fernley who has some speed in the ranks shocked the Elko Indians with a 35-14 in Fernley. This gave the Indians their second loss in two weeks.
It all started on the opening kickoff when Aaron Proctor caught the kick and returned the ball 80 yards for the touchdown.
Fernley then on-sided the kick off and recovered the ball at the Elko 44-yard line. However, this drive ended when Christian Quintana intercepted a pass in the end zone giving the ball back to Elko.
Three plays later after a couple of gains, Elko’s quarterback Ryan Wickersham ran right and cover the 61 yards scoring the first Elko touchdown. Elko had their only lead of the night 7-6.
Proctor caught the kick-off and didn’t get stopped until he crossed midfield. He was tackled at the Elko 44-yard line. But Fernley was stopped and turned the ball over on downs.
The next play, Tyler Dennis intercepted an Elko pass and ran to the Elko 16. Runningback Will Pritchard finished with two runs as the second crossed the goal line giving the Vaqueros a 12-7 lead after the conversion failed.

Once again Fernley would kick short and recover a mishandled catch, giving the ball back to Fernley at the Elko 44. Forty one seconds later, two plays and Fernley’s Pritchard scored from the 4-yard line. Fernley led 19-7 after the extra point went through the uprights.
Fernley added another touchdown with 35 seconds remaining in the first half with a 26-7 lead. Fernley would eventually end up with a safety on a sack and scored another touchdown on Pritchard’s third rushing touchdown.
Elko is now 2-2. Fernley is in first place in the north with a 4-0 league record. They are tied with Spring Creek.

South Tahoe at Fallon
Last week South Tahoe travelled to Fallon. A defensive struggle in the first half saw Fallon with a 7-6 lead by the end of the first half.
Fallon started the scoring when quarterback Elijah Wood finished the first drive with a 38-yard touchdown run. South Tahoe then capitalized on a 70-pass play. A 2-point conversion tied the game at 14-14.
Galli would finish the night with 446 yards passing completing half of his passes, 17-34. He threw five touchdowns and two interceptions. Fallon would take the lead when runningback Amezquita scored for a 21-14 Green wave lead.
South Tahoe responded with a 66-yard pass play but didn’t take the lead when the two-point conversion was intercepted.

Fallon would return the favor with a 66-yard pass play for a touchdown of their own for a 28-20 lead. South Tahoe then travelled the length of the field in nine plays when Wattanchinda caught a 9-yard pass from Galli. Another 2-point attempt and another miss keeping the Green Wave on top 28-26.
Fallon would finish their scoring at the end of the third quarter when McCormick connected with Nemeth for a 19 yard-touchdown; and after the extra point a 35-26 lead.
South Tahoe would come within a point when Galli threw a touchdown pass to Cody from 14-yards away. The 2-point conversion was complete as South Tahoe fell a point short 35-34. South Tahoe is 1-3 in league play. Fallon is 3-1 in league play.
