Reno hosted the state soccer tournament last week.
On the girls side the second seeded South Tahoe Vikings beat the top seeded Sunrise Mountain Miners, 3-2, in a state semi-final game.
Sunrise Mountain scored first with a goal in the first half. The Miners would score their second goal in the second half.
South Tahoe scored twice in the second half sending the game into overtime.
No one scored in the first overtime sending the game into a second overtime.
Finally, South Tahoe won the game in the second overtime to advance to the state championship match.
In the other state semi-final Truckee sent second seeded Pahrump Valley home with a 2-1 win. This game also ended in double overtime as each team scored in the second half.
Truckee beat South Tahoe 2-0 in the state final as they scored a goal in both the first and second half of the game.
On the boys’ side Sparks beat Vo-Tech 1-0 in the first semi-final game with a goal in the second half.
Top seeded Sunrise Mountain beat second seeded Truckee 3-1 in the second game of the semi-finals. Truckee had a one goal lead headed into the second half. Sunrise Mountain then scored 3 goals for the win to advance to the title game.
In the state championship game Sunrise Mountain dominated the Sparks Railroaders with a 5-0 shutout. The Miners scored 3 goals in the first and two more in the second for the win.
