MVHS Baseball Pounds Del Sol, Falls To Chaparral

The Moapa Valley High School Baseball team has struggled over the past two weeks. The team has gone 1-3 in league play, losing on a couple of walk off plays and have lost three of the last four.

On Monday, April 9, Moapa Valley hosted Del Sol and beat the Dragons 10-0. Pitcher Chase Hadley started the game on the mound and finished with a three hit shutout. Hadley struck out four Dragon batters.

David Prosky was the Dragons pitcher who gave up eleven hits and ten earned runs in the five-inning loss.

The Pirates started the game with two runs in the first inning. They followed that with two more runs in the second inning followed by five runs in the third inning. They were just one run short of ending the game in the fifth. That final run came in the fifth and with it the Pirate win.

Luke Bennett finished with two hits in three at bats. He scored twice. Kashton Frei was walked, scored twice and singled in an RBI. Chase Guesman had two hits including a double, he scored and knocked in an RBI. Hunter Wrzesinki double home two RBIs while Chase Hadley hit a triple, scoring an RBI and then scoring himself. Coby Longman was two for two with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Daxton Longman walked and doubled scoring twice. Overall a great day for Pirate Baseball.

On Wednesday, Moapa Valley travelled to Chaparral where they went head to head with the Pirates who has only one loss this year.

The Pirates started the game with two runs scored in the top of the fist inning. Chaparral tied the game after they scored a run in the first and a run in the second innings.
Chaparral would take a two-run lead in the bottom of the third scoring twice, 2-4.

Moapa Valley would score a run in the top of the fourth then tie and take the lead in the fifth with three runs and a 6-4 lead.

Chaparral cut the lead to one run in the bottom of the fifth. The Cowboys then allowed the Pirates another run in the top of the sixth for another two run lead heading into the bottom of the fifth.

Cannon Greene drove in the game-tying run for the Cowboys early in the bottom of the seventh. Then with James Cobian in scoring position, Antonio Vara singled him home ending the game 8-7, Chaparral.
Cobian was two for four at the plate scoring twice. Vara finished three for five with an RBI. Greene was two for three with two RBI’s and two runs scored. Jacob Mauro was one for three with two RBI’s while Rodney Elosegui also finished with two RBI’s on a hit.

Cobian pitched the first four innings struck out four Pirates and allowed three earned runs. Vara pitched two and a third innings allowing four runs, three earned. Greene was credited with the win pitching the final two outs.

Wrzesinski was two for four scoring twice with a double and an RBI for the Pirates. Longman was one for four with a double, a run scored and a RBI. Guesman scored once and had a hit as well as Payton McDermott who had a hit and a RBI.

Longman pitched two and two third innings allowing four earned runs. Luke Bennett got the loss after pitching four innings also allowing four runs, three of them earned.

The Pirates will host Virgin Valley this Tuesday then travel to Vo-Tech Thursday for this weeks league games. The Pirates are 1-2 in league play and 11-8 overall.
