Southern 3A- Sunset
It turned out to be a week where the underdog surprised the Sunset by beating two of the three games and turning the division race into a four way tie for second place at 1-1. The surprising leader is Pahrump Valley who is now 2-0 having beaten the Cheyenne Desert Shields last Friday night.

Cheyenne at Pahrump Valley
Cheyenne was the favorite to win the 3A Sunset. But they travelled last week to Pahrump Valley where the Trojans grabbed first place for the first time since 2005.
The Trojans scored the first touchdown on an Andrew Avena 3-yard run. Pahrump Valley would build a 22-6 lead by halftime then add two more touchdowns in the third quarter for a 38-12 win.
Joey Koening finished the game with two touchdowns a 20-yard run followed by a 4-yard run. The Trojans had three runners exceed 100-yards rushing. Casey Fiennory ran the ball 18 times for 126-yards. Nico Velazquez ran 21 times for 104-yards. Koenig carried the ball 8 times for 100-yards.
Pahrump threw the ball just three times completing 1 for 20 yards and a touchdown.

Del Sol at Democracy Prep
Democracy Prep came up with just 71-yards of total offense in this game, 70 of those came from running the ball. The Blue Raiders scored first with a Keionte Scott returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. Keith Jones then kicked a 32-yard field goal with just over 3 minutes to play in the first quarter.
Del Sol scored their only touchdown midway through the third quarter. The Dragons finished with 247-yards of total offense: 145 came from passing while 102-yards came from 31 attempts at running the ball.

Valley at Western
The Valley Vikings got their first league win of the season when they beat the Western Warriors at Western 46-3. Bryce Jones scored the first two touchdowns for Valley, both in the first quarter. Valley scored a field goal on the first play of the 2nd quarter when Henry Fuentes kicked a 27-yarder.
Isaiah Ramirez scored twice, a 55-yard pass reception then a 7-yard pass reception in the third.
Valley had 494-yards of total offense: 139 came on the ground while 355 came from 9 of 16 passing. Western finished with 177-yards of total offense with 104-yards rushing and 73 passing on 12-21 completions.

Pahrump Valley 2-0, 3-3 overall, Cheyenne 1-1, 5-2 overall, Del Sol 1-1, 4-3 overall, Democracy Prep 1-1, 2-5 overall, Valley 1-1, 3-4 overall and Western 0-2, 0-6 overall.

Southern 3A- Sunrise
Boulder City at Desert Oasis
The Eagles find themselves in second place after an upset win over Virgin Valley two weeks ago. Last week in a non-league game, the Eagles were beatenby Desert Oasis.
Alvin Pomare scored for the Diamondbacks first with a 3-yard run. Christin Vaughn scored his first of two touchdowns with a 4-yard run followed by a 2-yard run both in the second quarter.
It was Thorsten Balmer who scored both touchdowns for the Eagles in the second half on a 1-yard run and a 10-yard run.
The Eagles had 298 yards of total offense: 146-yards rushing and 152-yards passing. The Eagles were 10-25 throwing the ball.
Desert Oasis had 287 total yards with 164-yards rushing and 133-yards passing completing 13-25.

Virgin Valley at Rancho
The Bulldogs traveled to Rancho High School where they beat the Rams 35-0.
The Dawgs scored 21 points in the first quarter with Quarterback Meb Hollingshead scoring first on a 24-yard run followed by Jake Hampsten who caught a 68-yard pass. Case Crandall caught another pass from Hollingshead, this time from 39-yards. Hampsten caught a 42-yard pass followed by Wyatt Delano with a 21-yard touchdown run.
Virgin Valley finished with 358-total yards of offense: 162-yards rushing and 196 passing. Rancho had 72-yards of total offense, -2 rushing and 74 passing.
Virgin Valley will travel to Spring Valley this Friday night in a non-league game.

Northern 3A
Elko at Truckee
Elko traveled to Truckee California undefeated at 5-0. When the dust settled Truckee found themselves with a 31-0 win and still in second place behind Fallon.
Truckee held a 14-0 lead at halftime after Sean Kelly ran for a 17-yard touchdown. Truckee’s second touchdown came when quarterback Marcus Bellon completed a 93-yard catch and run in the second quarter. Derek Laferriere finished a drive with a 1-yard run. Valenzuela Jones scored the final touchdown with a catch in the endzone. Jones kicked a 38-yard field goal for the final score.

North Valleys at Spring Creek
Spring Creek held on to beat the North Valleys Panthers 48-32. Spring Creek built a 21-6 lead to start the second quarter. Both teams scored twice in the second with Spring Creek holding a 35-18 lead at half time.
Other northern Nevada scores: Fernley beat Sparks 52-20 and Lowry beat South Tahoe 32-14. Fallon 55-0 over Dayton.

Northern Nevada standings: Fallon 6-0, Truckee 5-1, Spring Creek 5-1, Elko 5-1, Fernley 3-3, Lowry 3-3, Sparks 2-4, North Valleys 1-5, Dayton 0-6 and South Tahoe 0-6.
