The Casablanca Golf Course in Mesquite hosted a golf tournament with several Sunrise Division teams including the Moapa Valley High School Girls Golf team. Taking their turn in the tournament rotation Virgin Valley High School (VVHS) put on a great event. Once more, the ladies from the Conestoga Golf Course were on hand to provide hydration and snacks.
The tournament began with a traditional introduction of the rules by the VVHS coach. She explained that the course had just reopened from regular maintenance procedures, making it a little more difficult for the players.
Pirate golfer Patricia Slaughter made the first cut, set at 56 for the first nine holes. She rounded off the back nine with an impressive score of 105.
Checotah Rowley improved her game with a final score of 128.
Also improving her score and rounding off the group was Grace Rhude with the score of 130.
“Once again, all the girls played great,” said Coach Steffanie Gray.
“Next week we travel to our final tournament before regionals,” Gray continued. “We’re going to put our heads down and work hard. We’d love to see one, if not all, of our girls go to regionals and represent our school.”
After the tournament on Tuesday, the finalists for two-day regional event will be announced by David Fish, Executive Director for Southern Nevada Golf Course Association (SNGCA).
