The Moapa Valley High School Tennis teams participated in the first two rounds of the team regional tennis tournament last week.
On Monday, October 1, the girls team hosted Virgin Valley and came away with a big 16-2 win. Amber Ables and Aubrey Aikele finished with 3-0 record for the match. The doubles teams of Averee Widdison, Courtney Zerkle and Fleur Dieleman and Elin Rohdin were also 3-0.
The boys’ team hosted Del Sol and came away with a 18-0 win. No stats were reported.
With the wins both teams advanced to the second round and a chance to qualify for the state tournament next week. Both teams played The Meadows. The girls were beaten 17-1 while the boys lost 11-7. No stats were reported.
The Pirate girls team ended their season 7-3 finishing fourth in the south. The Boys team finished 8-2 finishing third in the south.
This week the individual tournament takes place at Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas. Three players for the boys team qualified with Adam Smedley being seeded 12, Gavin Hadley being seeded seventh and Chase Hadley getting the fourth seed and a first round bye.
The doubles tournament also has three Moapa Valley teams seeded. Kolby May and Luke Hauver are seeded eighth, Jacob Leavitt and Giannis Giersch are seeded seventh while Slade Graham and Hunter Wresinski are seeded fourth and will receive a first round bye.
On the girls side, Aubrey Aikele is seeded seventeenth, Amber Ables is seeded sixteenth and Myra Mortensen qualified.
Pirate doubles teams of Brittnee Leavitt and Kayla Lyon were seeded eleventh while Fleur Dieleman and Elin Rhodin are seeded seven. The team of Averee Widdison and Courtney Zerkle are seeded fourth.
