New to local Parks and Recreation programs is youth tumbling classes. Cindy Olafson, a teacher at Grant Bowler Elementary has been hired by Clark County Parks and Recreation (CCPR) and tasked with teaching tumbling classes.

Classes are offered for kids ages preschool through 5th grade. They are held at Grant Bowler Elementary.
Each child is evaluated during regular classes. If they meet qualification, they receive an invitation to join the tumbling team. Currently there is a mini team and an advanced team.

Olafson has been teaching tumbling for over 15 years and says she loves it. “I enjoy watching the kids learn new skills,” Olafson said. “They are so excited when they learn a new one.”

So far this season, the team has performed twice. The first was at the Festival of Trees. The second was as an encore to the 2nd grade play at Bowler. Parents and other family and friends gathered to support their kids and were not disappointed by the effort made by all of the team.

Helping Olafson are high school students Amber Ables and Madison Whitney. In the beginning of the season, Monica Dominquez helped choreograph the performance.

Olafson has been teaching school for 24 years and is appreciative for the cooperation the school and CCPR have achieved to help this program succeed. “I love working with the children of Moapa Valley, they are awesome,” said Olafson.

CCPR employee Elmer Gomez expressed his appreciation to the school for their cooperation in allowing the program to use the facility. “We are very grateful to the school, parents and the community for helping make this program a success,” he said. “It is wonderful that the school and community can work together so well. We are very happy with this program.”
