Moapa Valley Progress
The 2018 season was a good one for the Moapa Valley High School Girls Track program. The Pirate girls finished as the regional champions last year, with second place going to Sunrise Mountain.
Moapa Valley will return most of the athletes from that championship team this year. The Pirates will have a very good chance to win a state title.
One of the strong returners is Ashlyn Western who finished 3rd at state last year in the 800 meter run. She finished fifth in the 1600 meters and fifth on both the 4×400, and 4X800 meter relay teams.
Another state qualifier is Skotlyn Hill who finished eighth in the 300 meter hurdles and seventh in the High Jump at State.
Hanna Watson returns as a Pole Vaulter. She finished third at state in pole vaulting. In the long jump event she finished seventh.
Faith Witter also returns as a pole vaulter who finished fifth last year.
The Pirate Boys team finished seventh in the regional meet last year. Returning will be sophomore Preston Humes who finished sixth last year in the 3200 meters. Tristan Lehman and Josh Cox are notable returns for relays. Cox also throws the discus and finished seventh at state last year.
