B.C. Athlete With M.V. Ties Signs To Play College Ball

By NICK YAMASHITA

The Progress

Boulder City athlete Trey Davis signs to play college football at Allan Hancock College. Behind him is his mom, Victoria Zubia-Buchanan, who is a 1997 alumnus of MVHS; and BCHS head football coach Chris Morelli.

Boulder City High School Athlete Trey Keili’i Davis has signed to play college football at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, California. Davis would have played his third season on varsity this year, if not for the cancellation of the NIAA football season in 2020.

Davis has a link to Moapa Valley in several ways. Most notable is his mother. Victoria Zubia- Buchanan is a 1997 alumnus of Moapa Valley High School. A solid high school at hlete in her own right, Buchanan played volleyball, basketball, and track & field for the Pirates, being all-state in all three sports. She was part of the Moapa Valley Volleyball dynasty which won state titles from 1991-2003. Buchanan played guard for state runner-ups in the basketball 1996-1997 season and was part of the dominating state champion track and field team, running relays, the 200 m, and competing in the long jump.

Trey Davis will be joining the college team as a wide receiver or tight end prospect.
“He is super excited!” said Buchanan of her son. “It’s been his dream to play college football and he actually gets to do that. He is also excited to play as they have not been able to due to the season cancellation.”

For the Eagles, Davis played wide receiver, tight end, and outside linebacker. He has impressive speed with 4.6 for his 40-yard dash and a 34” vertical jump. He is also strong with the capability to squat 405 lbs.

Davis caught 38 receptions for 455 yards averaging 12 yards per catch.
“It has been a rough year for him and all other Nevada high school athletes,” said Buchanan. “Many are missing out on scholarships and opportunities which they would have gotten if the season had not been cancelled.”

Davis said that he was excited for the next chapter of his life. He is pleased that tenacity in the face of adversity has paid off.
“I am happy I didn’t quit,” Davis said. “My dream is actually coming true. Thanks to everyone who supported me and helped me along the way.”

Davis is the son of Ian Davis and Victoria Buchanan, the stepson of Jeffrey Buchanan. He is the grandson of former Moapa Valley residents, the late Ernesto Zubia and Tammy Fields, as well as Jim and Cathy Davis of Logandale.

Allan Hancock College is still in the works for its football 2021 season schedule. They were 9-2 in 2019 when they last played.
