It was back to the ol’ ballgame last week for the Virgin Valley Little League. The organization’s softball leagues started on Monday April 4. The baseball opener was on Tuesday, April 5.
The usual pageantry of the season opening ceremonies was scaled down significantly for the league this year due to COVID-19 health precautions.
Instead of gathering the whole league together for the opener event, a brief ceremony was held just before each team’s first game of the season. Teams gathered to stand on their respective baselines. A flag was posted at home plate and the teams said the Pledge of Allegiance before the game.
Then one player from the home team was chosen to read the Little League Pledge before the game began.
Ending at the top of the standings in the Major Baseball League was the Mesquite Veterans Center team which finished the week with a perfect 2-0 record. In second was the Premier Properties team at 1-1. And the Knights of Columbus team came in third with 0-2.
The Minor Baseball League saw the Farmers Insurance Mitchell team at top standing with a 2-0 record. Star Nursery, 1-1, came second with 13 runs scored for the week. Valley Pediatric Dental stood at third at 1-1 with 9 runs scored. ERA Real Estate ended the week in 4th with a 0-2 record.
In the Softball Junior League the Mesquite Elks Lodge team had top standing with a 2-0 record. The Reliance Connects team at 1-1 took second with 23 runs scored. Mesquite Dental was close behind at 1-1 with 19 runs scored. Precision Eye Care stood in fourth with an 0-2 record.
In the Softball Minor League, the Kokopelli Landscaping team ended in top standing with 2-0 record. Falcon Ridge Car Wash was next with 1-1 and 16 runs scored. Mesquite Veterans Center was close behind at 1-1 an 15 runs scored. And Team Geno took the low spot in the league standings with an 0-2 record for the week.
