Bulldog Track Teams Compete At Pahrump Meet

The Virgin Valley High School Track and Field teams travelled to Pahrump for their second meet of the season on Saturday, April 24. Also competing at this track meet were teams from Pahrump, Durango, and Sunrise Mountain.

The Bulldog girls team pulled out a win in the meet. The Virgin Valley boys team came in second.
On the girls side, the meet started out strong when Macie Bowler took first place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 20.4 seconds.

Bowler also took first in the 300 hurdles finishing that race in 56.6 seconds, a new personal best for her.
To round out her day Bowler took first place in two field events as well including the long jump where she jumped 14’-5.25”; and triple jump where she jumped 29’-10”.

Jenna Walters got a personal best and took first place in the 1600 meters with a time of 7:13.2. She added to a good day by taking first in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:49.5.

New to the pole vault event this year Walters also took second place with a vault of 6 feet.
Calla Haviland started out the day by taking first place in the high jump at 4’10”. She followed that with a first place win in the open 400 with a time of 1:08.7.

New to the team as a freshmen, distance runner Brielle Tut won second place in both the mile and 2 mile races.

Logan Cude pulled out a first place performance in the 200m with a time of 30.1 seconds and third in the 100 meters. She also got a third place in the high jump.

With a time of 17:56.2, Abby Felix ended up winning the 2 mile race and took third place also in the girls discus.

Even though the pole vault was not done at the event, the athletes from each team were able to perform the event at home and send in the scores. Hailey Vellinga took first in this event with a height of 6’6”. She also got a 4th place in the high jump.
There was plenty of strong performance from the Bulldog boys’ team as well.

Jimmy Kelly placed first in the 200 meters at 24.9 seconds. He also scored first in the high jump at 5’6”, and took second place in the long jump at 17’10”. Finallye, Kelly took first in the triple jump with a jump of 38’7”.

Bulldog senior Coleman West took first in the 3200 meter race, with a time of 16:33.7. In addition, he won the pole vault with a height of 8’6”.

In the weights Cade Wilson took second with a throw of 35’7” and Ryan Bruehl took third in the shot put and second in discus with a throw of 96’1”.

Dylan Vellinga, a newcomer to pole vault, ended up with a personal best of 7 feet to take second place.
The Bulldogs will compete next week against Shadow Ridge, Desert Pines and Mater.
