Mesquite Diamond Dawgs play in The Icebreaker

The Mesquite Diamond Dawgs 14U club team played in The Icebreaker baseball tournament in Cedar City, Utah over the weekend of April 23-24. The team played hard and came away with one win and three losses in the tournament.

The Dawgs began strong, defeating the Roadrunners 12-0 on Friday. Two pitchers combined to throw a shutout and secure the victory.

The Dawgs scored 10 runs in the first inning. Garrett Hadley, R Leavitt, Cooper Harris, Aiden Muniz, J Nelson, and Brandon Perkins all knocked in runs in the inning.

Hadley got the win for Mesquite, lasting three innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out nine. Harris threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

In the second game on Friday, the Dawgs watched things slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 7-2 loss to Moab.

Decker Lee was on the mound for Mesquite. The pitcher surrendered six runs on five hits over one and two-thirds innings. Maverick Ludvigson threw three and a third innings in relief.
Lee, Aiden Muniz, Mason Montoya, and Manny Plancarte all had one hit to lead Mesquite.

The Dawgs struggled to get the offense going on Saturday and were easily dispatched by the Utah Hitmen, 7-1.

Brock Loveridge pitched Utah Hitmen 14U to victory. Loveridge lasted six innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out eight.

Mason Montoya took the loss for Mesquite allowing five hits and seven runs over five innings, striking out four.

Montoya led Mesquite with one hit in three at bats, breaking up Loveridge’s no hitter against the Dawgz.

In the final game against the Grand Valley, Colorado Raptors, Mesquite had a promising first inning. Maverick Ludvigson singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

But the Raptors matched that in the bottom of the first. They then pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning.

Garrett Hadley started on the mound for Mesquite surrendering seven runs on six hits over two innings, striking out two. Daxton Noel threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Dawgs launched one home run on the day. Decker Lee had a dinger in the first inning.
The Dawgs scattered six hits in the game. Ludvigson and Manny Plancarte collected two hits each to lead the Dawgs.
