Pirates Host Track & Field Event

It was a showdown for track and field on Saturday, May 8, as the Pirates and Bulldogs faced off against each other with a couple of other schools added into the mix. All gathered at Moapa Valley High School for the weekly meet.

It was the third track and field event held at Moapa Valley in the past four weeks.

The girls competition was a duel between the Pirates and Bulldogs with the Pirates scoring a 147 to 58 win.

The boys had four schools competing in the mix, with Lake Mead Christian and Sunrise Mountain added in. Moapa Valley won the team competition with 149 points to Virgin Valley’s 53, Lake Mead‘s 40 and Sunrise Mountain’s 7 points.

On the boys’ side, the 100 meters was won by Austin Heiselbitz with a time of 11:57.
The 200 meters was also won by Heiselbitz with a time of 23.43. Jimmy Kelly of Virgin Valley placed second with a time of 23.98.

Preston Humes won the 800 meters for the Pirates with a time of 2:06.72. Cyrus Katich placed second with his time of 2:12.99. Virgin Valley’s Dulan Vellinga placed eighth.

Marcus Shambaugh won the 1600 meters for Moapa with a time of 5:07.16. Preston Bushman placed second for the Pirates with a time of 5:23.77. Jared Mercado placed sixth for the Bulldogs.
Katich won the 3200 meters with a time of 11:21.76 Owen Rappleye of Virgin Valley placed second with a time of 12:43.84.

Anderson won the 110 meters hurdles for the Pirates with a time of 18.24. Hunter Davis placed second, 18.42.

Virgin Valley’s Cameron Noel won the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 45.12. Moapa Valley’s Garrett Clove placed second, 45.37.

It was Moapa Valley’s Eli Cox who won the shot put with a throw of 38-03. Virgin Valley’s Ryan Bruehl placed second with a throw of 37-00.05.

Cox also won the Discus event with a throw of 121-06. Jayme Carvajal placed second, 108-06. Brushl placed fourth overall with a throw of 96-08 for the Bulldogs.

Payton Neilson won the high jump for the Pirates 5-06 with Jimmy Kelly placing second for the Dawgs.
The Bulldogs Riley Averette won the pole vault with a vault of 9-00. Clove placed second for the Pirates with a vault of 8-06.

Kelly won the long jump for the Bulldogs with a leap of 19-00 feet. Clove placed second, 18-08.5. Kelly also won the triple jump for Virgin Valley, 40-05.5. Clove placed second 36-00.

On the girls’ side, Rainee Brito of Virgin Valley won the 100 meters with a time of 13.31. Bailee Andrew of Moapa Valley placed second, 13.57. Brito also won the 200 meters, 28.3. Allison Mills placed second for Moapa Valley, 28.65.

Talli Fairchild won the 400 meters for the Pirates, 1:04.19. Calla Haviland placed second for Virgin Valley, 1:05.98.

The Bulldogs Jenna Walters won the 800 meters with a time of 2:43.73. McKinley Bledsoe of Moapa Valley placed second, 2:55.09.

Emma Humes won the 1600 meters for the Pirates 5:30.91. Bledsoe was second, 6:18.91. Walters placed third with 6:32.95.

Skotlyn Hill won the 100 meter hurdles for the Pirates at 15.75. Hill’s teammate Hanna Watson placed second at 26.36. Virgin Valley’s Adison Snyder placed third, 18.14. Hill also won the 300 meter hurdles, 49.25. Snyder was second at 54.72.

Madalynn Frederick won the shot put with a throw of 28-08.5 for the Pirates. MVHS senior Hannah Watson placed second 28-07.5.

Moapa Valley’s Kayla Walters won the Discus 90-04. Alissa Wolfley placed second 90-00 for the Pirates.
Calla Haviland won the high jump 4-10 for the Bulldogs. Moapa Valley’s Sydney Reese placed second 4-10.
Watson won the Pole Vault 10-00. Sierra Wolfley of Moapa Valley placed second 7-06.
Watson also won the long jump 16-02.5, Andrew was second 14-09.5 and Virgin Valleys Brito placed third, 14-05.5.

Shanlin Totten won the Triple Jump for the Pirates at 31-02.5. Sydney Landini placed second, 29-09.5 and Brito third 25-00.

The Pirates will travel to Silverado High School to compete this Saturday. Virgin Valley will travel to Desert Pines.
