The Moapa Valley High School baseball team finished its regular season last week with two wins.
The first game, played at home on Tuesday, May 11 against Eldorado, ended up getting out of hand for the Sun Devils as the Pirates scored 3 runs in each of the first two innings for a 6-0 lead.
Gunner Redd started the game with a triple. Gavin Hadley scored Redd on a sacrifice fly for the first run.
Staheli, who had walked, advanced after Rylan Evans was hit by a pitch then scored from third base on a pass ball by the catcher.
Evans scored on a single by Chandler Evans for the third Pirate run in the first inning.
Later, Rylan Evans cleared the bases with a homerun to left field for a 6-0 Pirate lead.
Moapa Valley came up with 3 more runs in the fourth inning. The last two runs came in the sixth when the game ended with a Pirate win 11-1.
Redd ended up scoring three times in the game with two hits on the day. Overson finished with two hits and three RBI’s. Rylan Evans was 2-3 with the homer and three RBI’s.
Hadley got the win pitching six innings allowing six hits and a run.
The second game of the week was played at Western where the Pirates used a 15 run second inning to trammel the Warriors 19-1.
Rylan Evans was 3-4 with 3 RBI’s on two doubles. Hadley had a homer scoring 2 RBI’s. Chris Hoy had two hits and 3 RBI’s.
Evans got the win with three innings pitched allowing one hit and a run.
The Pirates have a 6-4 record and will host Eldorado on Tuesday in the first round of the region playoffs. They will travel to Pahrump Valley on Wednesday.
The tournament is double elimination. There is no state tournament in any sport this year.
