Dates For This Year’s BEX 150 Event Announced

The Progress

The BEX 150 is coming back this fall after the 2020 year was cancelled. Pictured here is the 2019 champion of the BEX event: Jamie Montano who had winnings of $1,333.

The BEX 150 Barrel Race will be holding its annual event this October. Set for October 30 beginning at 9:00 am, the BEX 150 has become a major event since its beginnings in 2018.

“It started out as the BEX 50,” said the event coordinator Jamie Hudec of Moapa Valley. “Then in 2019 it was the BEX 100. Now we are on to the BEX 150 and we even had to add another race, a tailgater, to accommodate the expected amount of entrants into the event.”

Enthusiasm was evident in Hudec’s voice as she explained the plans for the upcoming event. “We will allow 150 entrants to race with the 100 from last BEX race to enter and another 50 new riders,” she said. “But then, later on, that day, we will have the Tailgater which is way more open and more than one horse can be entered.”

The event will be in a new location this year at the Clark County Fair Rodeo Arena. Last time it was held in Mesquite for the first two races.
“We are so happy to be in Logandale this year!” Hudec said. “We love the arena and we always have great turnouts here.”

The BEX 150 will have a $170 entry fee. Only one horse per rider is allowed for this race. Out of that entry fee, $150 will be put into the pot for the winners and payouts.

The new BEX Tailgater, held later in the day, will be open for riders to enter multiple horses. The entry fee for the Tailgater is $70 with $50 going into the payouts pot.
“We have done about $18,000 in payouts in the past, but this year we are looking at a minimum of $25,000 in 28 checks for payouts,” said Hudec.

BEX has donated the four belt buckles to be awarded for the winners of the BEX 150,. In addition,10 local businesses have donated the other ten belt buckles for the Tailgater.
“This community is so good and awesome,” said Hudec.

The race is expected to draw riders from Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Idaho, California, Wyoming, and Nevada to compete. It is open to both cowgirls and cowboys.

No admission fee is charged for spectators and there are no vendor fees. All proceeds will benefit their annual charitable non-profit organization: Path 4 Paws (a no-kill animal shelter organization).
“We started this event to bring about a better race with better rewards and better payouts,” Hudec said.

“I think we have accomplished that and we really could not have gotten here without Jason and Hayley Adams. BEX has done so much in supporting us and making sure this event is a success every time.”
