Mesquite Diamond Dawgs Compete In Richfield Tournament

The Mesquite Diamond Dawgs 14U Club baseball team came away with a 4-1 record at the Father’s Day tournament in Richfield, Utah last weekend. The Dawgs won four straight game opening the tournament, then fell in the final tournament game to the Richfield Rampage team.

On Friday night, though, the Dawgs met the Rampage in the first game of the tournament and came away with a narrow victory.

It all came down to the wire, though. The Dawgs triumphed on a dramatic walk-off single in the late innings. The game was tied at 4 with the Dawgs batting in the bottom fo the 5th when Brandon Perkins singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Cooper Harris earned the win for Mesquite Diamond Dawgs 14U. The righty lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit and one run while walking one.

Mason Montoya started the game for Mesquite surrendering three runs on three hits over a little more than three innings, striking out four.

The Dawgs blew out Carbon Utah later on Friday. The Dawgs gon on the board in the first inning when Maverick Ludvigson grounded out scoring one run.

The Dawgs notched three more runs in the third inning with Montoya, Perkins and Daxton Noel all knocking in runs in the inning.

Cooper Harris went four innings pitching for the Dawgs, allowing one run on two hits and striking out five.

On Saturday, the Dawgs made quick work of the Gunnison Bulldogs team, demolishing the opponent 19-3.

Decker Lee toed the mound in the win for the Dawgs. Gunnison had a tough time trying to hit Lee’s change-ups and fast ball, he kept them off balance.

Perkins came in for relief later in the game pitching 29 pitches with 20 of them strikes.

Some of the big knocks were placed by Maverick Ludvigson and Noel as they both had doubles. Montoya had a 3-bagger in the game.

An early lead helped Mesquite Diamond Dawgs defeat Emery 10-7 later on Saturday.

The Dawgs scored on an error, a groundout by Manny Plancarte, a single by Garrett Hadley, a single by Jacob Nelson, and a single by Daxton Noel all in the first inning.

The Dawgs allowed Emery to score four runs in the fifth inning. But despite that, Perkins pitched the Dawgs to victory. The right-hander surrendered three runs on one hit over two and a third innings, striking out two.

Noel threw relief out of the bullpen and recorded the last eight outs to earn the save for Mesquite.
In the final game on Saturday, the Dawgs went up against the Richfield Rampage team. But this time the Mesquite team struggled from the very beginning.

The Dawgs fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 10-0 loss to Richfield.

Mesquite struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Rampage, giving up ten runs.
Montoya took the loss for Mesquite. The righty surrendered eight runs on six hits over four innings, striking out two.

However, Montoya went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Mesquite in hits.
