New Athletic Director at VVHS

By NICK YAMASHITA

The Progress

Brian Poole

Mr. Brian Poole has some big shoes to fill. He is the one who was asked to fill the slot for Athletic Director at Virgin Valley High School after it was left vacant last spring by Yori Ludvigson’s retirement.

Of course, the VVHS administration had a good idea who they wanted for the position all along. But it had to be approved by CCSD administration. That approval was granted shortly after graduation in May and Poole was officially named to the position.

Poole has been in the action of Bulldogs sports for the past three years. He has been the Physical Education teacher at the school, and has served as assistant coach for football, wrestling, and track.
“I am excited to be starting out as the new Athletic Director,” said Poole. “I am more than excited to still be here at Virgin Valley where I have been.”

Poole has lived in Idaho, Utah, New Mexico, and Nevada. However, he ended up teaching in Idaho and New Mexico. He was teaching at Gallup, New Mexico just before relocating to the Clark County School District. He taught a few years in Las Vegas schools. Then he took the job at VVHS in Mesquite.
Poole has been teaching for 26 years, 17 years as head football coach, 10 years as head boys basketball coach, 8 years as head track coach, and many more years as an assistant coach.

Poole is excited to be VVHS Athletic Director and has several new and returned ideas going into place for the upcoming school year.

“The football field is brand new and will be absolutely beneficial to our students and sports programs,” Poole said. “Just the fact of being able to accommodate more sports on the field will be a huge benefit to us.”

Poole also looks forward to the opportunity to, once again, have fans in the stands cheering again. “The last couple of years have been rough on athletics,” Poole said. “But we look forward to welcoming back all athletes and fans to Bulldog country.”

Poole really emphasized the sense of tradition that VVHS has for its athletics programs. These traditions have resulted in many glory days of dominance in Nevada high school sports for smaller schools, he said.

“I am excited about this new opportunity,” Poole said. “I feel I can help all our programs improve and be successful. We have terrific leadership in our community and good facilities for our students. I look forward to working with community members and hope that we can help Bulldog athletics get to the next level.”

Brian Poole is available for anyone who has questions about VVHS athletics. He may be contacted during school hours by calling the VVHS Office at (702) 346-2780 or by emailing him at poolebk@nv.ccsd.net.
