3A Football Around The State (August 25, 2021)

By DAVE BELCHER

The Progress

SOUTHERN 3A
Boulder City
The Eagles hosted the Western Warriors beating them 52-0. The Eagles didn’t have a spring season therefore this was their first game since the 2019 season when they went 8-3 overall and 4-1 in league play placing second behind the Virgin Valley Bulldogs. The Eagles are in the Mountain division opposite Moapa Valley and Virgin Valley.

Valley
The Vikings were beaten by the Mojave Rattlers 28-14 on Friday night.
Valley finished the 2019 season with a 4-6 record overall and were 1-3 in the Sunset. They are in the Desert Division with Moapa Valley and should be the third place team in the division.

SLAM
The Bulls travelled to the Cimarron Memorial Spartans and were beaten 28-0.
SLAM played last spring where they gained much needed experience. They were 1-3 but played Faith Lutheran, Bishop Gorman and Moapa Valley.

Rancho
The Rams are 1-0 with their win last Friday night over Cadence 48-0. The Rams scored 29 points in the first quarter then coasted. The Rams are in the desert division of the 3A.

Pahrump Valley
The Trojans will play in the Mountain division. They won’t play their first game until this Friday night. Last spring the Trojans played and were 0-3.

NORTHERN 3A
The North is divided into two divisions, East and West.

Truckee (West)
The Wolverines were scheduled to host Bear River. The game was cancelled due to excessive smoke from wildfires. They will host Elko this Saturday at 1pm.
Truckee played no games last year but being in the weak west division they should compete for the division title.

Lowry (East)
The Buckaroos beat Douglas last week 24-6. The northern Nevada schools last year played six games. Lowry finished 3-3 last season. They lost most of the team to graduation but also had several sophomores who received some experience.

Churchill County (East)
Fallon finished the spring season 5-0. They lost to Reno last Friday night 42-18 to start this season. They were beaten by Fernley for the state title in 2019. The Greenwave lost their skilled players from last year to graduation. Their leading rusher, receiver and quarterback. They are ranked #8 in the nevada Maxpreps rankings and the #1 team in the 3A. They do play on the tougher side of the north which will help prepare them for a deeo state title run.

Fernley (East)
The defending state champion lost a ton of talent but returned quarterback Julian Mcintyre who led the team in passing and was second in rushing for the team. His leading receiver also returns, Carson Kingston.
The Vaqueros travel to South Tahoe Friday night to start their season.

Spring Creek (East)
The Spartans were 2-3 last year. Graduation hit them hard, taking away their experience. They start the season this Friday night at North Valleys.

Elko (East)
The Indians were 2-4 last spring. They have very little experience returning. All their skilled players including a 1000 yard runner graduated. They start their season in Truckee Saturday.

North Valleys (West)
This Panther team should surprise a few teams this year. They were 3-2 last spring and return their quarterback, leading rusher and receiver.
