The Progress
The Virgin Valley High School Tennis teams easily defeated the Canyon Springs High School Pioneers in a home match on Friday afternoon, Sept. 3.
Bulldog top seed Brynn Andrus led the girls to a 12-0 victory, defeating her opponent in straight sets 6-0. Second seed Willa St. Germain followed with her own shutout 6-0.
Not to be out done, Bulldog doubles top seeds, Sadie Cowley and Shari Brumaghin won easily with a score of 6-0. Second seeds Sydney Anderson and McKadie Cowey kept the Dawgs undefeated with a 6-3 victory.
All other matches were forfeited to the Bulldogs due to a lack of players on the Pioneers side.
In the boys’ match, the Bulldogs won 13-5 behind top seed Alex Hendrick’s (6-0) (6-0) win over the Pioneers top seed.
Bulldog top seed on the doubles, Jacob Hafen and Lincoln Toone split their matches (1-6) (6-0). Second double seed Andrew Cox and James Park won their match 6-0.
The Dawgs lost their next two doubles matches before Dylan Vellinga and Riley Clayton won the final match 6-1.
“I feel our kids are progressing well,” said Bulldog Coach Gavin Coburn. “The kids are able to learn strategy and we coaches take it further in practice. They are beginning to love the game which will help our program immensely in the future. We are excited to watch them develop.”
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, September 10 when they host Cheyenne High School.
