VVHS Tennis
Individual matches were far and few between opposing players on Friday afternoon as Virgin Valley High School hosted a match-up against the Desert Shields of Cheyenne High School.

Cheyenne was lacking players in most of the matches. Despite having only three boys, the Desert Shields were victorious in those matches.

On the girl’s side, the host Bulldogs won all the matches that were contested.
Overall the Dawgs won the team score due to forfeiture of many of the matchups.

Winning their matches were first seeds one to three, Brynn Andrus, Willa St.Germain and Sadie Cowley.
The Bulldogs will not return to action until September 20 when they face off against Western High School.

VVHS Boys Soccer
Despite falling to the Boulder City Eagles 5-0, Virgin Valley High School Boys Soccer head coach Jose Galindo was pleased with his young charges.

“I still see individual improvement each week plus the kids are coming together as a team.” said coach Galindo. “We need to communicate better on the field and build endurance, especially in the second half of games.”

Despite giving up five goals, VVHS keepers Daniel Isidro and Steve Moreno had 13 saves.
Corner kicks were the bane for the Bulldogs as the Eagles had 5 chances and scored three goals off the attempts.

The Eagles kept the Dawgs on their heels most of the game. The Bulldogs had trouble advancing the ball to the midfield stripe.
“Midfielders Alejandro Rivera, Eric Solario and freshman Jose De Santiago held their own against a strong Eagle offensive attack,” Galindo said.

The Bulldogs travel to Eldorado and High Pointe High Schools for their next matches before returning to host Equippo Academy on September 22.

On the girl’s side, the Lady Bulldogs will host Pahrump on Tuesday Sept. 14 in the Dawg Pound at 3:30.

MVHS Girls Soccer
The Moapa Valley High School Girls Soccer Team was the only sport for MVHS that played a home game last week. All other sports had a bye except Cross Country which competed in Boulder City.
The team started out on Thursday, September 9 hosting Legacy High School. The Pirates beat Legacy 3-1.

MVHS junior Talli Fairchild was the star of the game as she scored two goals on the Longhorns. Brooke Sherwood, also a junior added another score.
The Longhorns scored one goal from their freshman standout Emilia Erives.

The Pirates outlasted the Legacy Longhorns as the game went to a final score of 3-1 with assists from Lexy Fullman and Taytum Yardley.
The following day, the Pirates hosted Cimarron Memorial High School, losing 3-7.

The Pirate girls could not stop the offensive drive of the Spartans as Cimarron scored 3 in the first half and 4 in the second while holding the Pirates to only one goal in the last half.

Talli Fairchild again scored two goals in the game while Brooke Sherwood scored one – exactly duplicating the results of the day before. Lexi Fullman ended up with another assist.
“The heat was rough this week and back to back games didn’t make it any easier,” stated Coach Cornwall. “The girls are doing good. We are figuring out where we need extra work, but overall it’s coming along nicely. I love these girls. They are such hard workers!”

The team now has a 5-2 record with the only losses to Spring Valley and Cimarron Memorial.
The next challenge on the schedule is against Boulder City at MVHS on Tuesday at 6:30 pm. However, Cornwall gave a warning that the game may be cancelled due to COVID quarantines in-place with the Boulder City team. Boulder City hasn’t played a game since August 31 when they met Virgin Valley High School resulting in a 1-1 tie.

The next match on the schedule would then be at Del Sol on Monday, Sept. 20 at 3:30 pm. The Dragons are currently 2-2.
