The Virgin Valley High School Girls Soccer team managed a win over the Del Sol Dragons, after a slow start to begin the match on Wednesday Sept. 22 in Mesquite.

“We were not playing our best soccer in the first half,” said Bulldog coach Scott Trimming. “To many silly mistakes, we adjusted ourselves to get spacing which opened up the lanes.”

But the Bulldogs struck goal six times in 10 minutes of the second period which invoked a mercy rule and ended the match at 8-0 in favor of the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs dominated the first half of play, controlling the ball 80 percent of the period. The Dawgs managed 12 shots on goal in the period but were stopped by excellent play by the Dragon’s goalkeeper.

Striker Katrina Beltran got the first goal of the game at the 15 minute mark of the period. Bulldog Sadie Burton added the second goal minutes before the period ended.

Whatever Coach Trimming said to his girls during the break worked, as the Dawgs came out pushing the ball with more intensity. Ampara Aguilar started the goal onslaught reaching goal six minutes into the second period. Within two minutes, Addison Snyder and Josselyn Hernandez added goals of their own making the score 5-0 in favor of the home team.

Bulldog mid-fielder/striker Dani Correa ended the game with a hat trick, 3 consecutive goals.
In addition, Correa had two assists. Burton, Hernandez and Aguilar also had assist points.
“It is so great that our girls can play multiple positions,” said Coach Trimming. “We had improvement across the board as the kids settled down.”

The Virgin Valley High School Girls Soccer team continued their excellent play on Friday afternoon in Las Vegas, defeating Durango High School 5-0.

Five Dawgs struck goal including Dani Correa, Natalie Zarate, Emma Hughes, Katrina Beltran and Leslie Salazar. Correa continues to impress adding an assist. Gentree Draney, Erin Ofori and Gracie Graney also added assists.

The Dawgs led 2-0 in the first period and added 3 goals in the second. They finished with 21 shots on goal. Keeper Ofori had 2 saves and the shut out.
“Zarate and Hughes are our players of the match,”said Bulldog coach Scott Trimming. “They played every position on the field except keeper with excellent play.”

The Bulldogs host Equipo on Tuesday in their next match.
