The other side of Bryson DeChambeau became apparent Wednesday Sept. 29th as he exhorted the crowd to let the long drivers know they were behind them.

Normally stoic and stone faced on the PGA Tour DeChambeau interacted with his fans and fellow long drivers as 64 competitors battled to reach the next round in the PWLD Championship.

Each competitor had 6 balls in five sets. The winners of each set received 200 points, second received 100 points, third place 50 points and finally fourth place received 25 points.  The placing in each set was determined by the longest drives of the set. The top eight point getters in four groupings advanced to Thursday’s matchup.

DeChambeau placed second in his group to advance to the next round. German competitor Martin Borgmeir won the group with 900 points followed by DeChambeau with 800 points.

Despite lower drives due to wind conditions Dechambeau powered through with drives of 351 yards, 355 yards, 351 yards, 347 and 328 yards. DeChambeau will have stiff competition on Thursday but is holding his own against the longest drivers on the planet. Thirty two drivers will tee up with sixteen moving on to Friday’s final competition.
