The undefeated (5-0) Moapa Valley High School Football team hosted Valley High School of Las Vegas (2-3) on Friday, Oct. 1, and completely dismantled the Vikings, 48-6.

It was the second league game for both teams. Both teams came into the game with a 1-0 record in the 3A South Desert league.

The Vikings came having beaten the Western Warriors the week before 27-12. Moapa Valley was coming off a 35-7 win at Rancho last week.
The Pirates scored 28 first quarter points en route to the win and a 2-0 league-leading record.

It took less than two minutes for the Pirates to score their first touchdown, a 28 yard run by Gunner Redd. It was the first of three touchdowns on the night for him. Redd has scored seven touchdowns in the last two games.

Redd scored the second touchdown of the night when he caught a 12 yard reception from Peyton Nielson with 6:53 to play in the first quarter giving the Pirates a 14-0 lead after Anderson’s second extra point kick.

Nielsen threw his second touchdown pass when he found Dustin Gordon for a 44 yard reception in the endzone. Anderson scored the extra point for a 21-0 score and 3:53 to play in the first quarter.

Moapa Valley would score the fourth touchdown in the first quarter after a Viking punt that travelled backwards 4 yards to the Viking 12 yardline. Jayme Carvajal finished the short drive with a 4 yard run.

Redd started the second quarter off with a long 42 yard reception from Nielson with 10:58 to play in the first half.

Carvajal intercepted a Valley pass at midfield. It led to Landon Wrzesinski making a 6-yard touchdown run with 2:32 to play in the half. The Pirates had a 42-0 lead which they carried into the third quarter.

Cashton Winterton had the second Valley interception for the Pirates at the 45 yard line. Ben Jolley then scored a 1 yard touchdown with a run up the middle for a 48-0 lead.
Valley scored their only touchdown late in the fourth quarter with a 2 yard quarterback run.

The win gave the Pirates a 6-0 record overall and 2-0 in league play. The Pirates remain the #2 team in the state-wide 3A just behind North Valleys of Reno, according to maxpreps.com rankings.
Moapa Valley and North Valleys are the only remaining undefeated teams in the 3A.

The Pirates will travel to Western High School in Las Vegas on Friday night. The game will start at 6 pm.

The JV game will be played at 11:30 am on Saturday morning.
