The Progress
The Virgin Valley High School match with the Somerset Losee Lions was a battle for pride. Neither team had not won a match this season.
The Bulldogs came out like a team on fire as they took it to the Lions from the opening whistle. They were led by striker Alex Rivera who broke through the Lions defense for three straight shots on goal but could not find the net.
The Dawgs finally broke down the Lions defense when Issac Cortez struck goal from 30 yards out to give the Bulldogs their first lead 1-0 at the 16 minute mark of the period.
Bulldog freshman Heriberto Gomez followed a minute later with another Bulldog goal.
The rout was on as Rivera struck goal on three straight breakaways upping the Dawgs lead to 5-0 and the first hat trick of the season for the Dawgs.
Bulldog Josue De Santiago ended the first half scoring seconds before the whistle giving the Dawgs a 6-0 lead.
Bulldog coach Jose Galindo substituted freely in the second half but the Dawgs scoring prowess did not diminish. Bulldog Andre Haro split two Lion defenders to strike goal.
Dawg Leonardo Calleros got his first goal of the season at the 50 minute mark.
Bulldog Erick Solorio got into the act striking goal at the 55 minute mark.
De Santiago was not finished yet scoring his second goal 60 minutes into the match.
Bulldog Antonio Berumen finished the scoring with his first goal of the season making the final score 12-0 in favor of the hometown Dawgs.
The Bulldogs travelled to Basic Academy on Monday, Oct. 11. They play Moapa on Tuesday before returning to host Cheyenne on Friday afternoon.
