If records were kept for the number of consecutive shutouts by a Nevada soccer team, the Lady Dawgs would be on the list.

The Bulldog soccer gals took it to the Desert Shields from Cheyenne High School on Friday, Oct. 8, with a convincing 11-0 win.

There were a lot of heroes in the game, but the Bulldog defensive line, especially the mid-fielders, have been dominating during the run. Kudos should be given to goalkeeper Erin Ofori who when given the chance to save goals, performed perfectly.

Nine Bulldogs reached goal in the win led by Jaymie Hulet and Dani Correa with two goals, followed by Graciee Draney, Amparo Quirarte, Emma Hughes, Sophie Tobler, Tiana Tafili, Natalie Martinez and Ofori with a goal each.

Assisting on the score were eight Bulldogs. Tifli, Correa, Tobler, Hughes, Draney, Hulet, Adison Snyder and Natalie Zarate each had an assist. The Match was called off at the 15 minute mark of the second period. They say that football is America’s game now, but don’t let it fool you, come out and watch these players go through 40 minute halves without a timeout.

The Dawgs are in the top spot in the 3A Desert League with a 6-1-1 record. The Dawgs host Mojave High School on Tuesday October 12 before traveling to Chaparral on Thursday Oct. 14. Then they return to host Moapa Valley on Monday, Oct. 18.

The Pirates took on the very strong (and full roster) play of Meadows Academy on Tuesday, Oct. 5. The Boys lost 2-11 with Cole Neilson and Mason Wheeler winning in doubles as well as Aidan Johnson and Braden Leavitt also claiming victory in doubles. The Girls played hard but unfortunately lost to the private school 0-18.

With regular season play ended, the Pirates head into Regionals this week. The boys faced off against Pahrump on Monday. The score will be reported in next week’s edition. The Girls will face off against Canyon Springs on Tuesday, Oct. 12. If both secure wins, then they will face off against their powerful rival, Boulder City on Thursday, October 14.

The Pirate teams have had full rosters this year with 22 student athletes on each of the boys and girls teams. The majority of the 44 students had never played tennis competitively before.

“This year brought us many new players,” said Head Coach Donna Swanson. “Both Coach Robbin Ozaki and I were excited to be able to inspire so many new players to learn and love the game of tennis.”
