Lady Diamondbacks Prevail Against Mtn View Christian

By BOB SNELL

The Progress

The Beaver Dam High School girls volleyball team continued its recent hot streak by sweeping visiting Mountain View Christian School of Las Vegas, 3-0, in its homecoming contest Thursday night, Oct. 7 inside the BDHS gymnasium.

The Lady Diamondbacks prevailed by scores of 25-11, 25-6 and 25-14 for their fourth straight win to improve to 3-0 in 1A South league play and 4-2 overall.

“I thought we served and passed well,” BDHS head coach Charyn McDonnell said. “That’s been our strong suit. We got a little sloppy in the third game and lost some of our focus. But overall, it was a good win for us.”

Christina Leach got Beaver Dam off and going in the first game by serving 14 consecutive points, including four service aces, to stake the Lady D-Backs to a commanding 14-0 lead.

Leading 17-7, Shyanne Pierce had two aces, two kills and a block while her younger sister, Bre, added two aces and a kill to help Beaver Dam finish off the game.

Leach stepped up again leading off the second game by serving seven straight points before the Saints could regroup.

Leading 13-6, Beaver Dam got kills from Shyanne Pierce, Emma Gonzales and Leach, plus four service aces from Bre Pierce to help close out the game with a 12-0 run.

Lizzie Garlick, Eliana Rodriguez and Leach kept the service game going in the third and final game, with Garlick serving out the game and match with seven consecutive points.

“I thought our setting was really good,” McDonnell said. “Christina did a great job. She’s set the ball really well for us.”

With a roster of 10 players, everyone has contributed during a match.
“Everybody plays for us,” McDonnell said. “The girls know they are coming in and doing something.”

Despite being 3-0 in league play, there is no looking ahead to any possible postseason play.
“We just want to get through the season and continue to get better,” McDonnell said. “We need to work on not losing our focus like we have at times during a match. We are playing match to match.”
