It was a tough day Bulldogs on Friday afternoon in the Dawg Pound. Not only were they facing a good soccer team from Cheyenne High School, they were facing adversity prior to the game.
The Bulldogs had only 12 players show up to the game, and their coach wasn’t available either. A football assistant coach had to sit in until the Lady Dogs head coach Scott Trimming came in to lead the Bulldogs in the second half of play.

The Bulldogs fell behind early 3-0 as the athletic Cheyenne squad dominated the time of possession and held the decimated Bulldog squad without a goal kick in the first period.
Despite the lack of an offense the Bulldogs came out with a more aggressive style of play in the second period. Coach Trimming’s vocal support seemed to keep a tiring Bulldog squad on their toes.
The Desert Shields added a goal at the 5 minute mark making the score 4-0.

The Bulldogs got their only goal of the game 20 minutes in when an errant Cheyenne pass caught their goalkeeper by surprise making the score 4-1 in favor of Cheyenne.
The Desert Shields added 3 more goals late in the period making the final score 7-1.
The loss dropped the Bulldogs record to 0-6.

The Bulldogs travel to Las Vegas for their next two matches before returning home to face Moapa Valley on October 27. The major questions to be answered are: Who will be available for the Dawgs, and who will be coaching?

The Lady Bulldog soccer team continued to roll in 3A Desert League play on Tuesday, Oct. 12, with a 4-0 white wash of Mojave High School. It was the Dawgs 7th win and shutout in a row since their initial 2-1 loss to Pahrump Valley in mid-September. The Bulldogs record now stands at 7-1-1.

During the streak the Bulldogs have outscored their opponents by an amazing 44-0. The Bulldogs mid-fielders have dominated in keeping opposing teams away from goal. All-State goalkeeper Erin Ofori had her hands in six of the shutouts surpassing last year’s record.

The Bulldogs came out a little listless against the Rattlers. “In the first half our girl’s touches and possessions were not up to our normal standards and were slower getting to the ball,” said VVHS head coach Scott Trimming.

The Dawgs had numerous goal shots during the first 24 minutes of play but could not split the net. Their best shot at goal came after a Rattler foul in the box. Bulldog Kacie Garrett took the shot but the Rattler keeper played the try beautifully saving a goal.

After a mass substitution by coach Trimming, the Dawgs came to life especially freshman Natali Isidro. The talented Isidro used her adept footwork to break through and strike goal at the 25 minute mark giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

The Bulldogs had a great attempt at goal 35 minutes in as the Rattlers again fouled a Bulldog in the box setting up the second penalty shot of the match. Bulldog Emma Hughes took the shot but a great save by the Rattlers keeper kept the score 1-0.

The Mojave squad had a good opportunity to tie the match late in the first half on a penalty shot in the box, but Ofori got her save with a diving catch.

The second half of the match was all Bulldogs as they controlled possession of the ball and limited touches by the Rattlers.
“Once we calmed down in the second half, the girl’s began to pass the ball around and control the field of play,” said Trimming.

Bulldog Isidro struck goal twice in the second half and Josselyn Hernandez added the last goal of the match. The final score found the Dawgs on top 4-0.

The Bulldogs host second place Moapa on Monday Oct.18. The Pirates are 6-2 for the season.

The Pirates cruised again through their opponents last week as they won in straight sets over both Eldorado and Virgin Valley. The Pirates are at the top of the division and in top 10 of the Nevada state rankings for all sizes of schools.

On Tuesday night at 7:00 pm, the Lady Pirates took on the Sundevils of Eldorado, winning in straight sets; 25-18, 25-4, 25-12.
“We started out off with a shaky start not playing their usual game and making a lot of unforced errors,” said Head Coach Mandie Matheson. “Adjustments were made and the girls did a great job the rest of the night.”

The Pirates were led by Tally Blackwell who had 6 aces and 4 kills. Halle Evans also had 5 aces and 4 kills.
