The Clark County Parks and Recreation Moapa Valley office ended its kickball season last week with a Halloween-themed tournament held on Wednesday, Oct. 27.

The kids took center stage first in costume, playing kickball games for ages 6-15. The kids had a blast while the adults warmed up for their tournament play which started a little after 6:00 pm.

The adult tournament play started with Team “We Got the Runs” led by Captain Layne Webb, taking on Team Roesner led by Captain Philip Roesner. “We Got the Runs” splattered around Team Roesner with a score of 2-1 and secured the throne in the first round.

The second game started with the radical-themed 80’s costume team “New Kids on the Block” who stole the show in fun and entertainment, performing KOTB moves and shuffles while playing. The team led by Kacey Martino, unfortunately, did not win but appeared to have the most fun of the teams present. They even had a “Tiger King” leaping and kicking about. Still, the leather and gym spandex was not enough to stretch them to the front of victory lane as the Balls ‘N’ Dolls team won 6-3.

Meanwhile, the action on the other field went full blast as the A-Team (Captain Kris Hibbets) took on the One Kick Wonders led by Sierra Houston. The A-Team went in with guns blazing as they took out the One Kick Wonders, 8-0.

The second round saw the #1 Seed Team Duvall who had the regular-season best record come into tournament play after a first-round bye and taking on Balls ‘N’ Dolls captained by Andrew Santos. Team Duvall remained at the top as they took down Balls ‘N’ Dolls 8-1, landing them in the Championship.

Meanwhile, in the other semi-final, “We Got the Runs” took down the A-Team in a close competition, 5-4.

The Championship Game was then set to have the #1 Seed Team Duvall taking on “We Got the Runs.”
The Championship Game ended up being a battle of siblings against each other as Cassie Wade (Weiss) was playing for “We Got the Runs” and her brother Brad Weiss was playing for Duvall. One of those siblings would prove to be worth their weight in gold as the MVP for the Championship Game. Brad Weiss knocked two home runs which lead to the utter devastation of “We Got the Runs.” Duvall won 7-1 and secured the Championship behind Weiss and his 2 homers.

After the tournament, Captain Brian Duvall gave his victory speech. “Make Kickball Great Again!” said Duvall.

Meanwhile, the home run king Brad Weiss stated, “It is so good to see people playing sports again and this is great to have a kickball league. Besides it is always good to beat the sister and brother-in-law.
Elmer Lopez of Clark County Parks and Recreation was pleased with how well things went.

“Everyone had a great time this season playing kickball and the tournament was a big hit, especially with the costume theme,” said Lopez. “We are definitely doing this again next year.”
