Golf Fore Kids Seeking Hole Sponsors, Raffle Prizes

By KRISTI TAUSINGA

The Progress

The 17th Annual Golf Fore Kids event is right around the corner and event organizers are gathering support from local business, organizations and individuals during the home stretch of the planning.

“This year’s event is shaping up to be bigger than ever,” said event coordinator Karen Fielding. “The tournament was booked up with reservations within just a few days of opening.”

But Fielding said that she is still looking for local businesses who would like to sponsor holes in the tournament. And she is also seeking donations for raffle prizes.
“Anyone who would like to sponsor a hole, or donate to the raffle should get in touch with us as soon as possible,” Fielding said. “We are excited to make this event a huge success.”

The Golf Fore Kids is taking place this year on Thursday, Dec. 9. Golfers from all across the region have signed up to play one of four different local courses including Falcon Ridge, The Palms, Palmer and the Conestoga.

The entry fee to the tournament for each golfer is to donate one new, unwrapped toy with at least a $50 value. These toys will then be distributed to needy children in the Virgin Valley and Moapa Valley communities in time for Christmas.

This tradition began in 2005 with a few volunteers, a golf course and 144 golfers bringing toys as their green fee. But over the years this annual event has grown and become a staple holiday tradition for the local communities.

Hole sponsorships are still available. A $50 donation allows a business to sponsor a single hole at one of the courses. To sponsor a hole at all four courses, the donation is $150. These sponsorships offer businesses an effective way to show a connection to their community, Fielding said.

Raffle tickets are also sold during the event with a big drawing held at a banquet just after the golf tournament. Fielding said that the raffle generally raises $6000-$8000 in cash. This money is used to purchase additional toys as needed, and also assists the Salvation Army of Mesquite and other local charities in helping needy families during the holidays.
