The Virgin Valley High School Wrestling team saved one of their best performances of the season for Senior Night.
All eight of the VVHS wrestlers who took the mat against visiting Boulder City won by fall as the Bulldogs flexed their muscles against the Eagles enroute to a dominating 48-24 win in a dual match held on Wednesday night, Jan. 19 at VVHS.
“We wrestled really well,” VVHS head coach Skyler Woods said. “That was a lot of fun to watch.”
It started at 120 pounds with Gavin Baird and ended with senior Jaren Hafen at 220. In between Decker Lee at 126, Sam Woods at 132, Ruben Silveyra at 138, senior Eathan Workman at 152, Cutler Crandall at 170 and Jacob Dominguez at 182 all recorded wins by pinning their opponent.
Making the night sweeter for the Bulldogs was both VVHS seniors – Workman and Hafen – winning on the night they were honored before the meet.
The Bulldogs didn’t have much time to savor the victory as they were back on the mat Friday and Saturday at the Chaparral invitational in Las Vegas.
Virgin Valley had three wrestlers place in the tournament. Baird (120) and Crandall (170) both finished third while Workman (152) was fifth.
The Bulldogs closed out the regular season portion of their schedule with a dual meet in Las Vegas on Tuesday against Desert Oasis.
VVHS will then host the 3A South Regional on Feb. 12.
“We’re looking forward to hosting the regional,” Woods said. “There’s a few thing things we need to work on before then, however.”
