Bulldogs Host 8 Schools In Weekday Track Meet

The Virgin Valley High School Track and Field Teams hosted a weekday meet on Thursday, March 31. In attendance at the meet were nine schools from throughout the state of Nevada. These included teams from Indian Springs, Lincoln County, Pahranagat Valley, Lund, Sierra Vista, SLAM Academy, Spring Mountain High School and White Pine County.

The VVHS Girls’ team did well at the home meet, placing athletes in the top three of all but one event at the meet.
VVHS senior Kelly Denninghoff had a good day placing first in all the speed events. In the 100,

Denninghoff won with 13.10. She won the 200 meter at 26.49. Then she finished first in the 400 at 1:00.41. Her teammate, Logan Cude took second in the 400 at 1:04.39.

VVHS sophomore Jenna Walters won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:35.2. Walters also swept the other distance runs taking first in the 1600 at 5:41.39 and winning the 3200 at 12:39.99.
Graicee Draney took 3rd in the 800 meter at 3:03.19. She then ran the 1600 in 6:52.26 for a second place finish.
VVHS senior Danielle Correa took third in the 100 meter hurdles at 18.5.

The Bulldog team won the 4×100 relay at 55.79; placed second in the 4×200 at 1:58.24.
VVHS senior Calla Haviland won both the High Jump and the Long Jump events. She got 4-08 on the high jump. Then she leaped 14-11.5 on the Long Jump.
VVHS senior Laila Ponce won the Triple Jump at 28-00.
In the Pole Vault, Hailey Vellinga took second with a vault of 7-06.
Abby Felix won the Discus with a throw of 85-05.

VVHS freshman Audrey Fiso took first place in the Shot Put with a throw of 30-11.

On the boys side, Bulldog athletes placed in the top three of 10 of the 17 events on the day. In the 100 meter dash, VVHS senior Jimmy Kelly came in a close second at 11.81.

The Bulldog boys excelled in the distance running. Junior Owen Rappeleye took second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:40.45. Rappeleye won the 3200 meter run at 11:28.65. His teammate Isaac Greig, a freshman, took second in the race at 11:47.05.

The Bulldog team took second place in the 4×100 relays coming in at 49.50, behind the Lincoln County team which had 47.98.
Virgin Valley won the 4×800 relay with a time of 9:33.12.
VVHS senior Ashton Roman won the Long Jump event with a leap of 19-09.

Roman took second in the Triple Jump at 42-09.50. He was followed by Kelly in 3rd place at 42-05.
The Bulldogs boys dominated the field in pole vault taking four of the top five spots. Riley Averett took first at 9-06. Dylan Vellinga made 2nd at 9-0. Connor Averett and Hank Kelly got fourth and fifth place with vaults of 8-0 each.

VVHS sophomore took second in the Discus with a throw of 89-01. Teammate Cole Wilson, a senior, was close behind in 3rd at 89-00.

Kade Wilson won the Shot Put with a throw of 40-01. Jeremy Gossett, a sophomore took third in the event at 37-05.5.
