The Moapa Valley High School Baseball team traveled to Sunrise Mountain in Las Vegas on Tuesday, April 5 for a game against the Miners. The Pirates thrashed the Miners, 26-0, in three innings.
The Pirates scored 13 runs in the first inning alone. T Pettingill reached on an error. Then Staheli got a walk to first base. At that point, Rylan Evans hit an inside the park homer with a fly to center field bringing all three of them home.
A few minutes later, L. Schouten scored on a single hit by G. Hadley.
Chandler Evans hit a single allowing Landon Wrzesinski to score.
Shandon Matheson reached first base on an error bringing Austin Heiselbetz across home plate.
Pettingill then hit a double on a fly ball to center field. That cleared all three bases for a 9-0 Pirate lead.
With Pettingill at second base, Staheli singled, setting up Rylan Evans to return to the plate. Rylan hit another deep ball to center for a second inside the park home run giving the Pirates a 12-0 lead.
The Pirates would go on to score three more runs in the second inning and ten more in the third before the game was called according to the mercy rule.
Austin Heiselbetz pitched a no-hitter with seven strikeouts.
The Pirates totaled 16 hits in the game. Rylan Evans finished hitting 4-4 with 9 RBI’s and scoring four times. Staheli was 3-3 with four runs scored and 2 RBI’s. Pettingill had a hit on two at bats scoring 3 RBI’s. Hadley had 4 RBI’s on a couple hits.
Moapa Valley is 9-3 overall this year.
The Pirates will play at a tournament in Las Vegas this week during the CCSD Spring Break.
