MVHS Track Hosts Weekday Meet

As the spring season winds down, last week saw the last of the weekday meets for the Moapa Valley High School Track and Field teams. It was also the final home meet to be played until the regional championships in May.

Moapa Valley hosted six other schools on Thursday, April 21. These included Del Sol, Green Valley, Durango, Legacy, Beatty and Pahranagat Valley.

On the Girls team, freshman Claire Cox placed 3rd in the 400 meters with a time of 1:11.
Brooke Sherwood lead the Pirates in the 800 meters with a 2nd place finish and a time of 2:47.35.
Sasha Barnes also placed second in the 1600 meters with a time of 6:39.56.

The girls 100 meter hurdles saw two Pirates finish in the top three. Allison Mills placed second with a time of 18.63 while Talley Blackwell finished 3rd.
Those two runners reversed order in the 300 meter hurdles as Blackwell finished 2nd with her time of 53.5 and Mills took 3rd.

Sydney Reese won the high jump competition with a jump of 5-6. Blackwell placed 3rd.
Shanlin Totten had a good meet as she placed 2nd in the long jump, 15-3.75 and 2nd in the shot put with a throw of 33-3, a personal record. She placed 4th in the triple jump with a leap of 29-0.25.
Paige Bodily won the Pole Vault with a vault of 8-6. Aubrey Wolfley placed 2nd and Hannah Wasland 3rd.
Neena Turnblom placed 3rd in the discus at 83-8.

The boys team saw Mordechai Yadegar placed 2nd in the 800 meters with a time of 2:13.66.
The 3200 meter run was dominated by the Pirates as four pirates finished in the top six. Kayden Dixon placed 1st with a time of 11:12.74. Joseph Boss placed 2nd, Isaac Thompson 4th and Grant Muhlestein 6th.

CJ Anderson won the 110 meter hurdles with his time of 16.72. Jonathan Monk placed 3rd.
Anderson placed 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles at 42.29.
Degan Jones won the high jump with a jump of 5-10. Jacob Dominguez placed 3rd.
Marcus Shambaugh won the pole vault with his vault of 9-6. Jackson Burt placed 2nd.
Over the weekend, the Pirates traveled to Silverado High School for the Skyhawk Invitational where the south’s best performers competed. There were 47 teams of all shapes and sizes.

Top finishers were Talli Fairchild in the 400 meters with a time of 103.17.
Emma Humes took 5th in the 1600 meters took with a time of 5:35.55.
Ethan Witter placed 3rd in the 800 meters with a time of 2:02.17.
CJ Anderson placed 2nd in the 110 meter hurdles at 16.86.
