Spring Sports Roundup: MVHS Softball and VVHS Track

MVHS Softball
The Moapa Valley High School Softball team clobbered the Clark Charger team in the only game scheduled for the Pirates last week on Tuesday, April 26 in Las Vegas. The game was called after only three innings and the score ended with the Pirates up 17-0.
The Pirates scored three runs in the first inning, seven runs in the second inning and then another seven in the third inning before the mercy rule ended the game.
The Pirates got six hits in the game while the Chargers only had one.
Emily Matheson led the Pirates with two hits and four RBI in the game. Lexi Fullman got one hit and 2 RBI.
Edyn Bennett pitched the win for the Pirates, going 2 innings, allowing only the one hit and striking out 4.

VVHS Track
The Bulldogs Track and Field team went up against eight other teams in a weekday meet held on Wednesday, April 27 at Del Sol High School in Las Vegas. The competition was fierce but there were some important highlights for the Virgin Valley teams.
On the Boys team, Jimmy Kelly took third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.96.
Kelly also won the the High Jump event at 6-03. Taking second in that event was teammate Ashten Roman with a jump of 6-00.
Roman won the Long Jump with a result of 19-08.5. Kelly came in second followed by Zach Trimming at third.

The Roman/Kelly duo also came out on top in the Triple Jump as well with Roman winning the event with a 41-02.5 jump and Kelly taking second at 40-11.50.
VVHS took the top two spots in the 3200 meter run. Owen Rappleye won the event at 11:28.62 and Isaac Greig took second at 11:36.85.
Dylan Vellinga took second in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 49.06.

The 4×400 relay team took 2nd at 3:58.48. The Bulldogs won the 4×800 relay at 9:46.39.
Riley Averett took first place in the pole vault at 10-06. He was followed by Vellinga at 2nd, Connor Averett at 3rd and Max Hughes in 4th.
Kade Wilson won the Shot Put for the Bulldogs with a throw of 4-05.
On the girls team Kelly Denninghoff took second in the 100 meter at 13.15. Denninghoff also won the 400 meter race with a time of 1:01.31.

Jenna Walters won the 800 meter run at 2:36.73. Denninghoff took 2nd.
Walters also won the 1600 meter run at 5:33 and the 3200 meter run at 12:34.01.
The Bulldogs’ Laila Ponce won the top spot in the 100 meter hurdles at 18.44. Danielle Correa took second in the event. Ponce also won the 300 meter Hurdles at 54.76; and the Triple Jump at 28-04.
The VVHS 4×100 relay team won their event with a time of 53.12.

Calla Haviland won the High Jump event with a result of 4-10. She also took 2nd in the Long Jump at 14-07.5.
Hailey Vellinga won the pole vault with a result of 7-06. Gentree Draney took second.
Audrey Fiso took second in the Shot Put with a throw of 31-03.
