The Virgin Valley High School Baseball team opened the Southern Nevada Region Playoffs with a 13-3 crushing defeat over Western High School on Monday afternoon, May 9, in the Dawg Pound.
The Warriors struck first with one run in the top of the first inning. The Dawgs responded with four runs in the bottom of the first to lead 4-1. The warriors added a run in the third inning to cut the lead to 4-2.
The Bulldogs blew the game wide open with 8 runs in the fourth inning to take a 12-2 lead after four innings.
The Warriors didn’t give up, though, scoring one more run in the top of the fifth inning. The Dawgs added one more run in the bottom of the fifth forcing the mercy rule at 13-3.
Kurt Felix and Kyler Sudweeks led the Dawgs offensive onslaught with three hits each. Every Bulldog in the lineup added at least one hit in the blowout.
Jared Jensen got the win for the Dawgs with Martin Jordan coming for relief in the fourth inning. Sudweeks had a triple to go along with 3 RBI’s.
Virgin Valley will host the Pahrump Valley Trojans at 4pm Tuesday night on the hill. The Trojans also won easily over Clark High School 8-1. The Bulldogs will be seeking revenge as the Trojans blitzed the Dawgs 11-0 on March 25.
