The Progress
The Moapa Valley High School Softball team entered the first round of the NIAA south regional tournament with a taking-care-of-business approach on Monday afternoon, May 9. The Lady Pirates slaughtered the Clark High School team 18-1 in only three innings on the Pirate field.
The Pirates scored their 18 runs on six hits for the game. Macie Frei, Terra Evans, Lexi Fullman, Emily Matheson and Ellie Cornwall each hit singles in the game. Kyndall Longman got a double in the first inning. Longman, Evans and Frei each batted in two runners apiece. Cornwall, Matheson and Edyn Bennett had 1 RBI each in the game.
The Chargers were handing out walks like candy in the game. The Clark pitchers sent a total of 12 Pirate runners walking to first base in the three innings. Meanwhile the Lady Pirates were stealing bases like they were…well… Pirates. Matheson, Delaney Graham, Evans and Longman had three stolen bases each in the game. Andie Wood stole 2 and Cornwall stole 1.
Graham was the winning pitcher going all three innings. She struck out 4 and allowed only 1 run.
The Pirates travel to Boulder City on Tuesday to go up against the Eagles who are top seed in the Mountain Division. The game starts at 4 pm.
