The Progress
The Virgin Valley High School Softball team continued its march through the 3A South Regional softball tournament on Tuesday afternoon, May 10, at Bulldog Diamond in Mesquite.
In a game that took just 48 minutes to play, the Lady Bulldogs rolled over Pahrump Valley, 15-0, in a rematch of last year’s regional final. The game was called after three innings because of the NIAA mercy rule.
Virgin Valley has now won 29 straight games while improving to 31-1 overall as they look to defend the regional title they won a year ago.
While junior Riley Price was throwing her seventh no-hitter of the season inside the circle, the Lady Bulldog bats feasted on Pahrump Valley pitching, collecting 15 base hits while batting through the order all three innings.
With two outs and nobody on base in the bottom of the first inning, Brooklyn Montoya drew a walk that would ignite a five-run rally for the Lady Bulldogs. Price followed by blasting a towering home run over the centerfield fence to put VVHS up 2-0.
Ana Tausinga and Evia Toone followed with singles and Marli Wakefield doubled both runners home. Destiny Moaei singled to bring home Wakefield and the rout was on.
Price walked one and struck out eight of the 11 batters she faced while collecting two hits at the plate and driving in four runs. Wakefield had two hits and drove in three runs while Moaei and Montoya each collected two hits and drove in two runs apiece. Reggi Frei, Natalie Plancarte and Toone also had multiple hits in the game.
Virgin Valley will host Boulder City Wednesday at 4 p.m. with the winner advancing to Friday’s regional championship game.
