The Progress
With a rocky start to the game, the Moapa Valley High School Softball team fell behind in the first inning of their second round Regional Tournament matchup against Boulder City on Tuesday night, May 10. Though they fought to the finish, the Pirates couldn’t make up the difference, losing to the Eagles 3-2.
The Pirate bats bested the Eagles at the plate, getting 7 hits in the game vs. 6 from Boulder City. But the Moapa team just couldn’t close that distance established in the first inning.
The Eagles captured a two-run lead on an error in the bottom of first. The Pirates began closing the gap with a run in the second inning. But the Eagles scored again in the bottom of the third to make the score 3-1.
A Delaney Graham ground ball single in the fifth inning brought home Macie Frei to make the Pirates one point shy again. But that was the end of scoring for both sides in the game.
Graham led the Pirate offense with 2 hits in 4 at-bats with the 1 RBI. Ellie Cornwall, Kyndall Longman, Emily Matheson, Terra Evans and Macie Frei each got a hit apiece in the game.
Graham got the win in the circle, pitching the final three innings, striking out 6 and allowing three hits. Andie Wood started for the Pirates allowing 3 hits and striking out 3.
The loss puts the Pirates into the consolation bracket where they will go up against SLAM Academy on Wednesday at 4 pm on the MVHS field.
