The Virgin Valley High School Softball team rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to cap a comeback from a 6-2 deficit and defeat a scrappy Boulder City team, 8-6, on Wednesday evening May 11 at Bulldog Diamond. The win gives the Bulldogs a ‘bye’ on Thursday and advances the team to the championship game of the 3A South Regional softball tournament on Friday.

The win also punched the Lady Bulldogs’ ticket to next week’s 3A state tournament in Fernley and kept alive their winning streak which has now reached 30 games.

Trailing 6-2, Virgin Valley scored three runs in the bottom of the third. Natalie Plancarte and Brooklyn Montoya singled and Riley Price followed with a double to score both runners. Ana Tausinga singled home Price to cut the margin to 6-5.

After leaving the bases loaded in the fourth, the Lady Bulldogs came through in the sixth.

With one out, Alex Covarrubias drew a walk and Reggi Frei beat out a bunt for a single. Plancarte singled to right field to score pinch runner Ari Easton with the tying run and Frei scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch, Montoya singled home Plancarte with the final run.

Price went the distance inside the circle for Virgin Valley scattering seven hits, walking four and striking out 12 batters.

Virgin Valley, which improved to 32-1 overall, will host the regional championship game on Friday at Bulldog Diamond. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
