The Progress
The Moapa Valley High School Boys Volleyball team played against the Western Warriors in the quarter-final round of the state tournament on their quest to be champions in the first full year of the program. MVHS hosted the game on Wednesday, May 11, where they beat the Warriors in three straight sets.
The opening set started strong with Max Fellars serving first. MVHS took the lead at the start and never looked back, winning 25-14.
Set two was a lot closer. The two teams volleyed back and forth for points. But MVHS bested the Warriors by 25-20.
The final set was a nail-biter. Western came alive and were out to play. They started strong and pulled ahead 5-2 in the set. Then the Pirates answered back. This one was also close with Western leading a lot of the time. Ultimately Western was sunk by MVHS, 25-20.
Cole Neilson and Landon Kelly lead the team with 9 kills each, while Max Fellars led the team in service aces with 5.
MVHS will now move on to the semifinal round, hosting the Clark Chargers on Monday, May 16 at 6 PM in the Pirate gymnasium.
