The Moapa Valley High School Softball team ended its season on Thursday, May 12 with a 6-4 loss to Pahrump Valley in the fourth round of the NIAA Southern Regional Playoffs. The game was played in Pahrump.
Pahrump put the first run on the board in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the frame, the Pirates answered with a run of their own hit in with a bunt to 3rd base by Emily Matheson.
The Trojans pulled ahead again in the fourth inning with a run. They kept the lead for good in the game.
The fifth inning was a bruiser for the Pirates as Pahrump scored four runs in the frame.
The Pirates began to gain momentum in the final inning putting up 3 more runs on the board. Ellie Cornwall, Kyndall Longman and Emily Matheson all drove in runs in the inning. But the inning ended with the Trojans being up by 2, getting the win and the chance to advance to the next round against Boulder City later in the day.
The Pirates tallied ten hits in the game. Delaney Graham led the team in hitting with 3. Matheson, Terra Evans and Tyelar Anderson each got 2 hits apiece. Matheson got 2 RBI in the game while Cornwall and Longman chalked up one apiece.
Graham started in the circle for the Pirates going 4 and a third innings. She allowed six runs on 8 hits and struck out five. Edyn Bennett pitched the last two and two-thirds innings allowing 4 hits and no runs.
Pahrump went on to play Boulder City later in the afternoon, also in Pahrump. Boulder City won that game 11-9 dropping the Trojans out of the tournament. Boulder City will play undefeated Virgin Valley on Friday in Mesquite for the final round of Regional Championship. Both teams will play in next week’s state tournament.
