The Progress
The Moapa Valley High School Boys Volleyball team ended it’s season on Monday, May 16, in a semi-final game against Clark played on the Pirates’ home court.
The Chargers proved to be tough opponents for the Pirates. Clark won the match in three sets, 12-25, 19-25 and 18-25.
Considering this was only the second year and first full-time regular season for MVHS, the local boys showed spectacular resolve in their efforts.
The boys finished the regular season as the number one seed in their division which gave them their very first berth in the playoffs.
Voting in the Desert League placed Max Fellars as player of the year. In addition first-year MVHS head coach Tiffany Frederick was named Coach of the Year in the division.
“The team had a great season and I was proud of the growth of individuals as well as the team as a whole!” said Assistant Coach Brooke Williams after last week’s game.
Senior Kade Taylor said, “Even though we lost, this was a good game to go out on.”
I am just proud that this is only our 2nd year for the school in this program and we made it this far,” said MVHS senior Tanner Wester. “It was a blast.”
Coach Frederick said that it had been a privilege to coach the MVHS boys team. “I have loved getting to know them and the bonds we have built will stay with me forever,” Frederick said. “I couldn’t be more proud than I am tonight after this game.”
“They are still learning the mentality of the game,” Tiffany added of her athletes. “But they fought hard and played so much better against Clark than they did in the pre-season. We will miss all of our seniors and wish them the best in their next adventures.”
“I would like to thank my assistant coach, Brooke Williams and JV coach, Kaylin Peay for all their help and support this season,” Frederick said. “They are also amazing athletes and it was an honor working with them both.”
