Registration Still Open For Best of the Best

By VERNON ROBISON

The Progress

Registration is ongoing for the Eagle’s Landing Best of the Best First Responders Golf Tournament to be held on June 25 at Conestoga.

The Eagle’s Landing Travel Plaza in Mesquite will be sponsoring its second annual “Best of the Best” First Responders Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 25 at the Conestoga Golf Club in Mesquite. Proceeds of the tournament will go to benefit local Mesquite Police Department and Mesquite Fire and Rescue.

Known for its support of veterans, the Eagle’s Landing company decided that first responders, in all of the areas the company serves, were due for some recognition and support.

“In the COVID days, when our first responders were getting hammered, I was worried about how to protect our employees,” said Eagle’s Landing owner Mark Yardley. “So we started this fundraiser last year with the idea that if our company takes care of them, they would continue to take care of us.”

Last year’s tournament in Mesquite was a success for a first year event, said Kenny Huff, General Manager of the Mesquite Eagle’s Landing. It made it possible for donations checks in the amount of $3750 to be presented by Huff to the MPD and Fire Department.

Huff said that this year’s tournament had already surpassed last year’s in enrollment. And there is still time for teams to sign up.
“We have 12 solid teams in already,” Huff said. “And it is my goal to have 20 teams enrolled by the time of the event.”

Participating teams will have a chance to win significant cash prizes. The grand prize for the top team in the tournament will be $10,000! Other high ranked teams will receive cash prizes as well.

In addition, several contests will be held throughout the golf course that can yield additional prize money. For example, there will be great prizes for winners of a long drive contest as well as for a Closest to the Pin competition. Both of these will have winners for both men and women divisions.

A Hole-In-One contest will take place at Conestoga’s challenging and deceptive Hole #2. St. George Ford is offering a new vehicle for anyone getting a hole-in-one on that hole.

Huff said that the company was proud to be able to help the local first responders in this way.
“I consider this tournament a way to pay it forward,” he said. “What they do for us on a daily basis is huge. They are putting their lives and safety at risk. This is just a way of showing our appreciation for that.”

“The only thing else we have to say is that we hope and pray for the well-being of our first responders out there,” Yardley said. “And we thank them from the bottom of our heart.”

The entry fee for a five-person team in the tournament is $1,500. Forty percent of all entry fees will go directly to the Mesquite First Responders Charity, a non-profit foundation administered through the City of Mesquite.

Registration for the tournament is open now. In addition, the company is looking for hole sponsors and sponsors for the various contests.
