The Virgin Valley High School Girls Soccer teams was worlds apart in the 2021 season. The Bulldog team finished on top of the Desert League with an 11-2-1 record.
In the playoffs, the girls lost twice to the eventual state champion Pahrump Valley team, eliminating last year’s hopes for a Bulldog championship ring.
The team will begin 2022 play with a new coaching staff. Californian Tom Dailor begins his Bulldog career this season inheriting a solid program.
Dailor will benefit from a good offensive team. But he will need to strengthen the defensive side if the Lady Dawgs hope to defend their Desert League record this year.
The Dawgs return no less than 13 players including two of their top three scorers from last season. Junior Katrina Beltran and sophomore Natalie Isidro had 22 and 20 points respectively last season. They should improve on that with another year’s experience.
Natalie Zarate and Gracie Draney add firepower to the Bulldog offense.
Returning to the defensive side are Kacie Garrett, Alexia De Santiago, Emily Jimeniz and Tiana Tafili.
The Bulldogs will count on returnees Mersadee Corely, Paola Nicolas, Mattea Wahl and Sophie Tobler to add depth and experience for the team.
The Lady Dawgs will open their season at Pahrump Valley on August 24. The Trojans went 19-1 last season on their way to winning the 3A Nevada State Title.
The team’s home opener will be held on August 30 when Virgin Valley will host the Eagles from Boulder City.
The Bulldogs will host the Moapa Valley Pirates on September 19 at 6 pm in the Dawg Pound.
