The Moapa Valley High School Girls Soccer team won both the games on its schedule last week.
The Lady Pirates began the week on Tuesday, Aug. 30 hosting Del Sol from Las Vegas. They ended the week on Thursday on the road with a win against Durango High School.
In the first game, the Pirates had no trouble crushing the Del Sol Dragons in front of a home crowd. The Pirates chalked up three goals in the first half and followed up with another three in the second half, all while holding Del Sol scoreless for a final 6-0 score.
Leading the Pirates in scoring was sophomore Mallory Tobler with two goals. Tobler also got two assists in the match.
But the route was a team effort with Brooke Sherwood, Abbie Hammons, Haylie Western and Emmy Cornwall each scoring one goal apiece.
The match against Durango was closer. The two teams sparred for positioning throughout the first half with both remaining scoreless. Then the Pirates pulled ahead in the second half scoring three goals while holding the Trailblazers to only 2 for the win.
MVHS senior Talli Fairchild led the Pirate offense with 2 goals scored in the match. Sophomore Abbie Hammons chipped in the third goal for the Pirates.
“We are still working out some kinks as a team,” said MVHS head coach Lisa Cornwall. “But overall we are doing good, just trying to peak at the right time.”
“These girls are amazing with the extreme heat in which they are competing,” Cornwall added. “They will only improve as we go.”
The Pirates ended last week with an overall 6-2-1 record. .
This week the Lady Pirates will host the 5-2-1 Equipo Academy on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 6 pm.
