The Progress
The Moapa Valley High School Girls Volleyball team were 2-0 last week losing just one set in the two matches played.
The Pirates beat SLAM 3-1 on Monday, Aug. 29 at SLAM. They won the first two sets 25-16 then 25-20. Then they dropped the third set, 14-25. The Pirates came back in the final set, 26-24.
Sydney Reese had 15 kills in the game on 29 attempts. Reese had 8 blocks in the match.
The Pirates had 11 serving aces led by Brooke Houston who had three.
“SLAM played great defense and challenged us to dig deep,” said MVHS head coach Mandie Matheson. “Our passing and service errors made our job a little more difficult. But it was good to see the girls get gritty and secure the victory.”
In their second match of the week the Pirates hosted and beat Cadence in three sets on Wednesday, Aug. 31. It wasn’t even close with the first set ending at 25-9, then the second at 25-18 and the third 25-14.
“Our passing directed us to our course to allow us to maximize our offense,” Matheson said. “Our middle attackers (Sydney Reese and Halle Evans) both hit perfect games. The other attackers also hit very clean games. It was a great team effort.”
Reese dominated again with 15 kills on 19 attempts. She had 7 blocks.
Evans had 8 kills on 10 attempts.
Houston moved the ball around the court with 23 assists.
The Pirates are 7-3 overall and 1-0 in league play.
This week they will host Clark on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 6 pm.
