It was a good week for Virgin Valley High School Tennis as both the boys and girls teams swept their respective matches against Pahrump Valley and Sunrise Mountain of Las Vegas. The two wins improve both VVHS squads to 2-2 on the season.

Virgin Valley traveled to Pahrump on Monday, Aug. 29 and came out victorious by identical scores of 13-5.

Brynn Andrus led the girls winning her two singles matches while the doubles tandem of Sadie Cowley and McKadie Cowley, along with the team of Kelsey Ellis and Julia Walters, both went 2-0.

On the boys side, the doubles team of Angel Garcia and Gunner McOmie went 2-0 as did the team of Jacob Hafen and Benjamin Nelson.

On Wednesday, VVHS hosted a depleted Sunrise Mountain squad. The Lady Bulldogs won by a score of 12-0 with the Cowley duo and the team of Breanna Zarate and Lindsay Marshall both winning their respective doubles matches 1-0. The remainder of the matches were forfeits as the Lady Miners did not have a full team.

On the boys side, Sunrise Mountain did not field a boys team which resulted in a forfeit.
“It was a good week for our players,” VVHS head coach Gavin Coburn said. “It’s fun to see the improvement they are making.”

Virgin Valley will be on the road this week for two matches at Canyon Springs in North Las Vegas on Tuesday and at Cheyenne Thursday in Las Vegas.
